I was thinking of posting a very similar question!

Being locked down is making me dream of holidays.

I've been pondering an organised 'singles' holiday and had cruises recommended to me, but don't know much about them yet.

You should go. Life is too short to not do what you want to do.

"Anyone been on holiday as a single? And where did you go? "

I'm a widower and go on most holidays alone.

I choose quieter places with a view of the country or ocean. I usually cook and read. Relaxing holidays where I recharge my batteries.

I say you go for it and see what happens.

"Anyone been on holiday as a single? And where did you go? "

By myself I stopped in Dubai for 2 nights on the way to Africa

Dubai is great and they love the English accent which makes it super easy to make new friends/connections out there

If you’re going with friends I suggest Barcelona, Croatia or the states

The area we was in the locals didn’t like locals in Croatia but they won’t say anything they just the price just goes up when you see them because a lot think British means rich but you get that in a lot of countries

Barcelona was the same but a lot more friendly and the price didn’t change as much weather was a better and the food was amazing!!

And the states you’ll enjoy out there definitely! As long as you know where you are and where you are going when out there because it’s easy to take the wrong turn in the states and end up in the ghetto

"I haven't, many times I wished I had though!

Exactly.

I always travel alone and I used to just buy food for take away and eat alone in the park or in my hotel room.

But someone gave me the same advice. Now I even eat in restaurant alone while traveling.

Awkward and uncomfortable - but be strong and do it.

90% of my adult life I’ve travelled alone, love the freedom of following my own path each day.... I’ve done Egypt, Mexico, trekking / train around Italy, Barcelona, Croatia and various extended European city breaks to name a few.

Agadir, morocco

Pattaya, thailand

Both went as a group and later as a single, had an amazing time each time. Would 100% advise that you stay in a low budget hotel rather then an expensive one in thailand, all the fun people are low budget lol

Would advise the opposite for agadir, stay as fancy as possible, you will meet amazing people.

I've done round the world trips a couple of times, much of Europe and places here and there. As a student I've been lucky to have more holiday time than most people. I'm very frustrated just now as I can't.

I mix the types of trips, cities, cold, hot, beach, architecture, art, learning etc. I always find people to meet and things to do. Solo holidays have given me lots of openings that probably wouldn't have been there. I've met and stayed afterwards with people I've met, including a young French cop, a couple of Italian female students, toured New Zealand with a Czech lad. The least adventurous are probably beach package holidays but even with them, I've gone off with a Geordie cop, leaving his girlfriend at the pool, whilst we explored. We've then had nights out in the UK since.

Decide what you need from travelling and then pick what best fits. If it's not too expensive, it's a small investment.

I quite enjoy going on holiday by myself; getting to do what you want when you want.

I also find I'm more into exploring and meeting new people, especially locals

That being said, holidaying with someone else is fun too...I just love holidays and don't go on enough of them haha!

I went to Croatia last year and had a fantastic time.

Went to Split and Zadir...did a lot of walking in the national parks and of an evening walked into the centre and enjoyed meal and a drink or two and then watched the most amazing sunsets.

Went to see a film at the cinema and some bike rides and immersed myself in the local culture.

I won’t lie, there were times when I wanted to be sharing the experience with someone but mostly it was fun to just do as I wanted...

I would totally recommend a holiday away by yourself.

Having only been single over the past 18 months, I've yet to get away on a holiday. Whilst I like the idea of holidaying as a single person, I'd prefer a group holiday, where I can make new friends and enjoy some welcome company.

Does anyone know if any good companies that do group holidays?

I've holidayed alone for years. You tend to make far more friendships on holiday as a single, you are more approachable for a start for other singles.

Travelsphere do guided tour holidays (travel around by coach etc.) and you are with the same group of people so best of both worlds, you can make friends or do your own thing but have “company” around you.

They were slightly older folk and not young uns when I travelled with them. The guides are local and knowledgeable.

I did some research into organised singles holidays and noticed even the ones that say they don’t add a single person supplement are still more expensive than if you were going in a couple.

In my twenties, I went all over the place on my own...favourite holiday was to Albufeira, met four girls on holiday and spent a lot of time with them

Holiday alone every year

So far done Cuba, Dom Rep, Egypt, Spain, Australia. All wonderful, loved it. But when I was in Jamaica it was the first time I felt I needed someone with me, I felt it was wasted on just me, I should of had a hand to hold when walking down the beach, eyes to gaze into across the dinner table

I better stop now lol

I havent done a 2 week holiday as a single - but I travelled alone for years.

I'm not sure I'd want to do a 2 week beach holiday on my own but I'd do a city break or a safari or something with activities.

Book it

I've used Exodus Travels who do group adventure holidays. On my trip to Vietnam I was the only single (out of 5 people) but there was a good mix of organised 'sightseeing' with a guide and alone time.

Yeah, they don't seem that cheap, but I guess that's too be expected as one person per room means they can get less people there and so make less on any extras.

I don't like being alone, but in the past I've never been very good at introducing myself to strangers (though I'm feeling much more confident these days), which is why the organised singles holidays appeal as at least I know everyone is in the same boat.

Dubai & Nottingham

We travelled around SE Asia for 6 months a few years ago , did a bit of work teaching English but mostly just experiencing different countries at the right pace and getting of the beaten track. We met dozens of solo travellers, envied them, they would occasionally travel with us to an island or mountain retreat , then be gone , sometimes bump into them again at a party in a bar or festival in another country and they’d be with someone else, they never seemed to be alone, it’s very easy to meet people when travelling or an expat but it can be harder on “holidays” as people are often in a rush and not open to meeting and getting to know strangers.

I’ve been all over single. I’d say cities are better, but I’ve done resorts. With cities, you can also install well known dating apps and set your location as the city you’re visiting a few weeks before and see if you can find some other entertainment while there

I went with Travelsphere and highly recommend. Small groups, all stay in the same hotel. Daily excursions if you wish or free to do as you wish, even evening activities. You have the support of a group if you want it or do your own thing.

I'd booked to go to Carcassonne with Newmarket travel as they sounded similar to Travelsphere. At the last minute a friend of mine asked if she could come as her holiday plans had fallen through.

I'm glad she did as they have bigger groups 80+ opposed to 14 with Travelsphere. They take you to destinations and leave you there saying come back in five hours.

I'd have been lost on my own.

I went as a single female, no trouble. I went with Travelsphere, there were 14 of us. You could travel with the group or do your own thing.

Three of the people I only saw on the minibus two and From the airport and on the included excursions.

I went to Thailand on my own, been there previously on my honeymoon so had a basic idea of the place. Loved it, booked a hotel for three nights in Bangkok that then left me free to roam or stay depending on what happened during my stay.

Week one met a Thai Woman in Starbucks, took her for dinner that night and spent a couple of days (more nights as she was working) exploring areas of Bangkok I’d not visited previously.

Week two, caught the bus to Pattaya and met a few people out and about. Sit in a bar on your own, you’ll eventually get chatting to someone.

Ate in restaurants, went to the cinema, lazy days relaxing on the beach or hotel pool, on my own and just enjoying the freedom of waking up and not needing to ask another person what should we do that day. That freedom is weird at first but enjoyable once you get used to it.

Yes and a bit of sex as well, not too difficult to find in Pattaya

Was due to go to Cambodia this year bloody pandemic.
