Hello Good Evening and Welcome to this open discussion about the Greatest Guitar Solos -

It is what You enjoy not what you think is cool or hip but a Guitar Solo that sends your heart pulsing whenever you hear it and makes you want to play a real guitar or an air guitar!

Let me start the ball rolling by telling you three of my favourites:-

John Squire's solo in "Waterfall" by the stone roses.

Plus not exactly a solo, but the guitar duet towards the end of "Know your rights" by the Clash.

Both always get me in a top mood!

The guitar solo in 'Baker Street' ..often over shadowed by the sax solo.

Any Bryan May solo but especially his National Anthem on top of Buck House.

Anything by Gary Moore especially the live instrumental version of 'Parisian Walkways'.

Totally agree with Hendrix and all the classics ... Especially Hocus Pocus by Focus, any band that can make a yodel work deserves the kudos!

At the moment mine (Ma) has to be the end of 'I am the Resurrection' by the Stone Roses

Eddie van Helen's work on beat it has got to be top 10

I agree with freebird but it's more of a marathon

Slash's solo in slither (velvet revolver) is excellent

Anything from Jimi hendrex

And going for quality not quantity you gotta love Paul kossoff

Many so called solos by bands were actually Jimmy Page in his Session days pre Led Zepp...

But can I mention Yngwie Malmsteen for amazing technical ability and the mix of Opera and hard rock ..

And Peter Green for the blues fans amongst us.

I remember Bowie telling a story about Page havin a riff he didn't know what to do with so he gave it away. It forms the riff for Bowie's The Supermen

Some of the sixties stuff by the stones is fucking fantastic, it's just a shame that there is some thing about them now as just being an extension of Jagger's lips, Althogh admittedly they are big fuckers

Eddie van halen played on beat it, purely to get the video on to MTV which was then a rock station and wouldn't show Michael Jackson videos

Sylvia by focus jan Ackerman looked like a porn star in those days

Any solo by the rev William gibbons is fantastic check out zz tops early stuff like la grange or waiting for the bus
