Telephone land line

I genuinely can't remember the last time I used it so wanted to cancel it.

Can you have no landline but just pay for wifi and sky if that makes sense ?

Seriously looking at it but it all seems tied up together ?

Any sensible suggestions to get the cost down, thinking of one of the amazon sticks but again does that need wifi

I dont pay for one and have sky with virgin net. I dont know a great deal about it all but know i dont pay for a landline

Yes firestick needs WiFi but really good worth having . As for the landlines I have one the phone unplugged so never use it but I'm gonna do a search to regarding that

You can get a WiFi router from 3 which just plugs into mains. No wires, no installation for £22 a month

I've only just heard about these routers that you can put a SIM card directly into for your home Wi-Fi am broadband.

I think you just get unlimited data SIM, put it in the device,and off you go.

I'm very interested in learning more about them as I think it would be more cost efficient than my current setup.

I don't know how you can get rid of it but I'm with talk talk and don't pay for a phone. I pay the line rental but it comes in with my overall price. If I wanted a phone, I'd have to pay more.

Just changed my package, still got phone but it's now payg so cut my bill in half ... looked up on compare sites and have a pretty much equal deal so all good and can still be rung and have the option to rung out! Sim only deals do mean you can lose connection when networks fail

Mines only £22 inc. line rental. Just don’t use landline.

I use fibre and its not connected to any telephone lines hence no landline and no TV packages moved on to catchup TV look it up you will be saving a lot of money

Most of the mobile companies are doing the non installation routers now. They contain an unlimited data SIM and transmit the WiFi around your house as a normal router does. Just plug in and go

If you don't want the land line with sky then cancel phone and broadband as banded together and go for mifi aka a data sim router or if your package allows hotspot your phone and upgrade to unlimited data.

i have talk talk internet, and yes have to pay for land line, even tho i never use it, dont even have a phone pluged in, but internet comes down it, so i guess it fair that i pay for the line, its not much tho.

oh and i have a phone number, no idea what it is tho lol

I have satellite broadband in my area - just have small mast that I receive the wi fi through and a normal router. It’s through a company called Zoom - £22 a month for usual home speeds and £28 for unlimited super fast.

Check first if your area has this - the comparison sites usually don’t list it.

With these, if you move house you just unplug it and take it with you.

Broadband uses the phoneline if using anyone except for Virgin Media (they install their own cable but you'll still be paying a line rental on it even if you don't use it as a phone line).

The line rental will be part of the total cost you pay for your broadband connection.

I use TalkTalk and currently pay £26 a month for fibre broadband on an 18 month contract. This is my second 18 month contract and I renewed at a lower price.

Usually after your contract expires if you don't look to see if they have a new offer your monthly cost will rise. It's sometimes worth contacting the company near the end of your contract and say you are leaving and they might offer a better deal.

If you are paying monthly it should be cheaper but then you will probably get slower speeds and a data cap (and if you go over the cap they might charge you more or reduce your speed).

Looking at MIFI (WIFI router with SIM card) you can pay less if doing pay monthly but, as above, you'll get slower speeds and a data usage cap.

3 seem to over an Unlimited usage for around £22 for an 18 month contract (and in the small print it says your cost will rise every April by 3.5%) which is, marginally, cheaper but still around the ballpark of phone line broadband costs (I would be paying £23.50 on TalkTalk but I pay an extra £2.50 for a speed boost).

Your best bet would be to look at price comparison websites to compare different broadband and MIFI options. I use USwitch for this (I used it to switch from Virgin when their prices were becoming extotionate and service was declining).
