"Got my 6 tattoos between the age of 16 and 21. Was always planning more but I went totally off them around 10 years ago. The ones I have don't bother me at all as they're just part of me now, but if I had never got them, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ever got any." You got them early then...times change..minds change...that's what put me off!

This as a biker and an ex soldier I’m one of the rare non tattooed in the group. Always asked when I’m getting ‘inked up’. They use to have a lot of cache with me as a younger man, the people who had them seemed like dangerous people to know. Now Police, Grannies, Midwifes and MP’s are inked up The rebellious side of them have all but disappeared and the fashion fad taken over. I will add, no issue with the people who have them or make a living from the artistry of them. I just won’t now, as the reason to have them in my opinion has lost its lustre for me.

If that makes any sense They scream ‘I’m so individual’ while the vast majority of people you know have them, I’ll stick with being a blank canvas. See, that's cool...I'm not gonna judge you for not having any...it's a shame you've decided I'm unoriginal and boring just cos I do... *shrugs* He didn't say unoriginal he said individual Actually, he did...further up the thread. I never said boring though *scrolls to check*" Not boring, I referred to unoriginal. My bad if I misread it!

"They’re totally unoriginal and cliche form of rebellion, far more original not to have any. It’s the tattoos I don’t like, nothing to do with the people, there’s plenty of lovely people who get them, but when I spot them on someone I like I’m always a bit disappointed, that yes, they too have a tattoo. Are they a form of rebellion now a days?... I don't think they are. I think they are more an expression of self What’s that expression, I want to be like everyone else ? Surely, the 'expression' is 'personal' therefore different to other's idea of it! I never said boring though *scrolls to check*" Boring was what I got from what you said...not a direct quote... I don't mind people not liking my inkwork...its only for me I do take offence to being called unoriginal tho...most of the tattoos I wear I designed myself. That's like accusing a writer of plagiarism...

"I have loads of tattoos, they become a bit of an addiction. I only regret the one but all have some meaning for me. Never have any on my face or neck though, I think that’s one step to far. What's the addictive bit of the process for you? I find the sound of the needle enough to give me the urge to have one. That and the fact that it’s someone artwork and a memory of a particular time, experience or frame of mind. What about the pain!!? They’re generally not that painful but in the odd instance I actually quite enjoy it. I like a bit of pleasurable pain myself " pleasurable pain is always good.
