From the land of haribos.

I have been travelling to many countries and I have noticed that many dont have the same set of hours, for example in the latin countries it could be as late as 11 at night cos they finish late. I would say the earlier the better and about 9hrs of sleep

La la land

Same as adults depends on the kids, we have 3 one needs 12 plus hours and the other a lot less.

I think that it depends on their age, life style/culture, health, personal needs etc. Every child is different.

Dublin

9pm on school nights and 10pm at weekends for my 11 and 12 yr old.

Depends on culture..in Dubai its late as its so hot during the day they go to beach at 9pm.

Depends on the child, culture and family. We have two kids (well, ones an adult now) - 18 and 3. The older one was fine staying up later eg on holiday, weddings etc. He tended to get up later too. The 3yo is absolutely not able to stay up beyond her 7.30-8pm bedtime. She just gets frazzled and crabby. She gets up much earlier than our son did and wakes in the night, whereas he didn't. Both brought up in the same sort of way - it's just natural variation.

We'd have had no issue taking Child 1 to a restaurant at 6pm but Child 2 it's better to go at lunchtime or before 5pm.......

Interesting points everyone and yes it also depends what age they are, the younger they are, the more sleep they need, about 10 to 11hrs sleep are recommended

couple, us we him her.

I think a set bedtime is important.

To install a sense of discipline and respect for parents.

Also parents need some time together.

Im also for sitting round the table and eating together every night talking about each others day and listening to what our kid's have been upto.

I tend to just leave them in their cupboard and let them decide when it's bedtime...

My ex step kids were, and still are, in bed by 7pm every night from the off and they're 6 and 8 now. The children were very young when me and their mum met so I was fortunate enough to have had a big part in their upbringing and whilst we were all for letting them be who they wanted to be some things we set from the off including bedtimes. Never had a single argument from their either. Consistency was key for us. I know its not, and doesn't work for everyone. Guess we were lucky.

My youngest would sleep from 7pm to 7am from birth, as a teen he would be up late.

I used to let my eldest stay up until 8, I liked having that hour with him

If they are pissing you off send the little buggers to bed. If you want some alone time send them to bed. If you want the dishes doing or washing done let them stay up. If they make too much noise send them to bed , if they look happy send them to bed they will soon learn not to be too happy . Fine balance between being happy or 2 happy

Spot on.

They need rules

A set bedtime. Allowing an extra 15 minutes when they get a year older.

Allow them to stay up later at weekends and holidays as long as they can still get up when the alarm goes at 6.00am
