Ooooooo genealogy is fun! I traced my Dutch Jewish ancestors back to the 1700s

It is been 20 years at it so far, I find it interesting, why they moved, how they lived, what was going on at the time. It’s easier now with some records going online but I do miss the days of sitting in the records office doing the jigsaw puzzle or trailing around the local villages to find the addresses and graves. All UK based at the moment, with immigration to US and transpiration to Oz, back to the late 1600s / early 1700s on most lines.

My dad's side ended up in the UK having immigrated from the Netherlands, others from the same family went to Wisconsin (we're talking the 1880s) and they're still there and I made contact. It's really cool! We've been through the records in Dutch in the home town where our family shop still stands, family name still over the door. Sadly the Holocaust means no family are left now and it's a different type of shop.
