I don’t want this to sound desperate or anything like that , but as a single guy with all that’s going on and Xmas on the horizon I’m starting to feel anxious about spending Xmas alone :/

Anyone else feeling like that ?

Would be nice to spark up a friendship on here if possible but I know that’s rare these days ....

What do you do on lockdown weekends?

Spend some time on yourself like Miss I says. Do things for you.

And spend fun time with your kids too. Best of both worlds.

It’s more than just Xmas day - it’s the festive period alone .... I know this all sounds terribly desperate but hey ho just thought I’d put it out there ...

Sounds good in theory but there is no way I would want to spend the day with my ex, even though we still speak. My son will spend half the day at hers and other half at mine.

Christmas can be a.very lonely time of year for alot of people,more so this year because of covid ,I really feel for you op,enjoy your time with your kids ,then take yourself off for a walk and try to keep your mind active x

Hi op.

I spend a lot of time over christmas alone as i enjoy it that way.

Can you get yourself nice food and drink find something to watch on the television or netflix. Video call or whatsapp people and there is always people on here who are alone. Not sure what time of day your having your kids but have you thought of voluntering over christmas

I guess my anxiety comes from the fact I struggled immensely during lockdown and a 3 wk furlough I was on, like struggle as in wanting to call a help line - type struggle :/.....

It's a public forum for free to post what you want,I suffer with Anxiety and I find reading,walking keeps my mind off the what if situations,try and chat to someone now about how your feeling and you will find that your Not alone,you will get through this

You can post what you want here as long as it's within the forum rules. Don't worry about posting about anxiety/depression or other mental health problems - lots of people do and it's always better to mention it than to keep it to yourself.

Living on your own and being single means you could bubble with another household - is there anyone you could bubble with?

To take your mind off things going for a walk helps - even if it's raining I find getting a dose of nature/the elements takes my mind off the anxiety and worry.

Keep posting on the forum - your own threads or commenting on other threads and you'll find lots of supportive people on here.

Yes i agree. I have spent many Xmas days working or alone and it is no big deal for me. If it bothers you that much OP look into doing some voluntary work on the 25th as plenty churches or soup kitchens out there looking for extra hands.

I'll be spending Christmas alone by choice this year. I do find if I do feel a little lonely that the fab chatrooms are good for someone to natter to on Christmas day, as who ever is in there is likely hankering after a bit of company too.

As a sidenote if you are feeling anxious/depressed have you contacted your GP? If not I would contact your GP and tell them how you are feeling and they'd be best placed for offering treatment and/or information on local support groups.

You can have a look on the MIND website for local support groups also and your local council might have information also. Even though you may not be able to meet up in person most support groups have switched to using Zoom to provide support.

It’s just me and my mum Christmas Day, has been since 2014. We keep saying we’d go away or go out for Christmas dinner, but never seem to arrange anything!

I will be seeing her Christmas Day regardless unless either of us are unwell.

I feel for you, OP. I'm often alone for Christmas.

Usually it's because I do Christmas with my family in January. I've got a medic in the extended family so "side A on Christmas Day, side B when Aunt Jane and Uncle John are free" has been my norm since childhood. That helps... but I'm not having a January Christmas this year either.

I find Christmas alone quite peaceful. I go for a walk, it's so still.

I hope you can make the best of it.

I'm totally with you OP. This will be my first Xmas on my own after separating from my ex husband. Not spent Christmas alone in 20 years. I also have no Children and no close family. And yes, it's not just Christmas Day itself, but the whole of December for me.

We'll get through it.

Are there any local Facebook groups who are organising anything? Not knowing what restrictions will be in place is going to make it difficult because nobody knows if hospitality will be open.

I get where you are coming from op and I’m fortunate enough to have D with me ! Lockdown has affected us all differently, I have been ok as been working and still get to see my daughters and mum but I’ve been at home for 3 weeks recovering from surgery and I don’t think I’ve ever felt so lonely, D is amazing but being home has been shite! I appreciate for some Christmas is just another day but for some it is heavily family oriented and that could all be very very different this year which for some of us will be quite sad . The volunteer work is a great idea as it will get you out the house and take your mind to a better place

I'll do what I do every other Xmas day. Full English in the morning, online poker tournament, cook dinner, bit of TV, bed.

As you can probably tell Xmas isn't high priority to me.

OP, you're more than welcome to join in with the online poker (especially if you're not very good at it)

I get it. My parents moved away to live on a narrow boat last December and they've moored somewhere down South for lockdown and the rest of my family is two hours away from me. However I work in a hotel where I work Christmas Day anyway and hopefully I'll be able to spend the afternoon/evening with my best friend and her family.

I've always spent Christmas with my family, and brother and his wife are having a new baby tomorrow (via C-section, so the appointment is made) and mum and dad are elderly and vulnerable so I can't help thinking that this will be the first one that I spend alone. And no, I don't have a support bubble.

Because I've been thinking this way since about September I'm kind of OK with the idea. I used to really love Christmas but it seems to have lost its magic for me over the part few years, somehow. Besides, I've also got plenty of decorating that I could be doing, and the suggestion of volunteering is a good one. Although how, that squares with Covid restrictions I can't quite work out - does the virus not attack people at work and only when they're socialising?
