Gotcha

What makes you want to upgrade your phone when the day comes around? Is it those sweet, sweet 5G speeds? Or are you more interested in the shiny new cameras to capture your foof/peen in glorious 4K?

I'm quite happy with the S7 I've had for a few years. The only thing tempting me for new phones is better cameras... just not enough to pay another £500

Nothing really tempts me apart from the fact that the phones only last so long before slowing down, regardless of how well you have looked after it.

So are you happy to hold on to older handsets which can have parts replaced relatively cheaply then?

I always choose Samsung and I'm loving my S10, I go into 18m contracts rather than paying out though.

Just need to practice on my night shot settings

I would prefer this if the phone companies were less crafty with how they work things. I’m pretty sure parts used in them only last so long, or there are purposeful bugs in the operating systems. As every phone I have had has lasted only so long before needing replacement.

Long contracts are definitely a pain, think I'll stick with SIM only and buy phones outright in future.

I don't think it's a case of bugs in the OS, more that older hardware struggles to keep up with the demand of newer software. As for parts, as with everything, they'll wear out eventually unfortunately.

I don’t like huge phones so had been using a 5 year old iPhone SE until they brought the new SE out in the summer. The old one still worked but the battery wasn’t holding for more than a few hours.

I recently switched from Samsung to Huawei and it feels basically the same to use. The camera is incredible though. My contract and the payment plan on the phone are separate so I'm not as limited as they used to be and also once I've paid off the phone my payments will go down.

I'm not a fan of the ones that barely fit in your hand anymore either. Batteries seem to be the big issue, especially when it's so expensive to get then replace on some phones now

I've heard good things about Huawei phones and their camera, are they really that good?

Same as me..... I loved my old small SE and had it for 5 years, but the battery was dire and constantly walking around with battery packs to keep recharging. My new SE just the same and battery perfect

It's amazing how they always get really slow or keel over a week before my contract is up for renewal.

Yep! I'll send you some pics now of some super close up pictures of things I took when I was playing with it when I first got it and it's amazing the details it can pick up!

I'm on PAYG so always buy my phones outright. I never buy new though. At the moment I'm using a Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 which runs Android 6.0.1. The phone is about 6 years old but still runs all the apps I need. When I decide to get a 'new' phone it will probably be a Sony and I'll be looking at one that runs Android 8 or 9.
