now then..

interested to see peoples views on legasing and regulating prostitution.

as the act itself is between consenting adults, some would see it as a victimless crime.

do people think that legalising and regulating prostitution would be a good thing or a bad thing and why??

i think it would be a good thing, in other countries that have tried this they have found crime and drug abuse goes down, and think of the tax that can be collected

I think legalising it would be a good thing- it could then be regulated and monitored more closely. Would keep vulnerable women (and men, of course) much safer, as they could work in less risky environments... they would have proper rights, be more empowered and be less vulnerable to abuse and enabled addictions. I honestly don't know why it hasn't happened... It only pushes things underground, which is so dangerous. It has worked pretty successfully in holland- authorities should accept that it happens, and just make it safer! There. That's my opinion

I'm vague on the matter, but is prostitution itself not current legal. AFAIK women are able to work on their own, maybe even recently expanded to two.

It's the soliciting, pimping, running a brothel that is unlawful.

I may be wrong, often am.

Its illegal to charge for sex but ok to charge for your company... what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults is not at question.

My view... legalise it to protect vulnerable women, ban pimping and street walkers. It can be done through a system of license and inspection quite simply and would be self funding. Plus would raise revenue. Its a win win win.

The act of prostitution is legal

Running a brothel, living off immoral earnings (pimping) street walking kerb crawling or putting cards in phone boxes are all illegal

no, you are not wrong, you have that pretty much correct in the UK.

but as it illegal to solicit advertise etc it is driven underground.

i am basically asking peoples opinions on brothels etc being legal... and also escorts being able to openly advertise sexual services and them being regulated regarding earnings, health testing and certification etc

I have a friend thats an escort and she pays tax's on her earnings, it is kinda legal it depends how you label it, her job title is a adult entertaioner and the guys she meets pay for her time, the tax man is more than happy to take her money for what shes does

Hmmmmmmmmmm

What interesting idea........

Personaly I can't see any problem with legalised prostitution. There were several 'Brothels' in Bristol, owned by a 'pimp' but run by the women.

I think the problem comes with 'imoral earnings', I wouldn't have an issue with 'comunes', the women running things themselves, but it's a very shakey area to talk about at times.........

To make prostitution legal here would mean many, many years of legal wrangles and a lot of petitions.

You cannot get a simple A/B road built here without massive hysteria so the likes of the oldest profession getting a legal thumbs up?

Not likely.
