Every time I go on a date I'm never sure how to handle the bill and as a result I end up paying the entire bill

Where do fab folk stand on this delicate topic?

Absolutely always go Dutch, or I pay.

Whether it's a date, lunch with a friend/my adult children

It doesn't sit right with me to allow someone else to pay.

We establish this before the meet, especially if we have booked a hotel room. No awkwardness that way............

I thought it was only groups of women who did that?

I never go for a meal that I couldn’t afford the bill for. That being said I would expect the person who extended the invite to take the lead on the bill and I would then offer my share with an expectation that this is accepted. If not I will pay for the second date.

I don’t think men should always be out of pocket.

Definitely 50/50, I don’t mind being treated to a coffee but if it was a meal I’d expect to pay half and certainly pay half of a hotel room

Really though I would always go to pay the bill but anyone I've met from fab has always offered to pay half

We had a joint company Christmas do a few years ago where 4 companies who worked in the same courtyard all went out together ( it worked as each company only had 2-5 people)

End of the meal the bill came and one of the company owners got the calculator out and broke it down to the fact that his staff had only had soft drinks and one of them had had one and the other had 2, then proceeded to pay their share to the penny not a tip nothing, never been so embarrassed in my life, yet they thought it was perfectly normal

I always approach a first date expecting to pay, (old school ) but if they offer to pay towards it I’ll accept rather than cause upset.

I find that if they don’t want to meet for a 2nd date they’ll often insist on paying the whole bill, or they’ll happily allow me to pay it all before they politely leg-it.

Definitely if a 2nd date looks likely, I prefer to pay the whole bill, saying ‘You can pay next time’

It usually gets a smile... but it’s worth noting that I’m single, so it hasn’t worked THAT well

50/50 Unless it’s a special occasion. I also don’t presume one person should have to pay the entire bill. It’s a bit of a power move - unless it’s a genuine gesture.

Makes me cringe too.

I often eat out in large groups and always just throw in my money plus at least another £10 so I can leave the others to it when the bill comes in.

Don't make it a big deal unless it is a big deal. If you can afford it and want to pay , just pay she will let know if it’s an issue and let her pay half or next time. Or if it’s worrying you, and it sounds like it is, have e a conversation first.

But you say every tine ? So you have lots of one offs? If it’s the sane girl and you are paying every time without her saying anything that’s a bit odd,

It’s also different in different cultures, I asked a Chinese girl to pay half once, purely because I didn't like her, and she told me it was the biggest insult a man can do. Which in that situation , was perfect.

Same as a few ladies on here whoever invites pays the first time, I’ll generally offer to go half even though if they’ve invited me

I’ve always preferred one person picking up the bill it’s less complicated and doesn’t spoil the fun

If he pays first time, I’ll pay second... very simple.

With female friends I pay half. On a date most men I date insist on paying. I think it's an age/generational thing. I used to argue, I don't now, I just enjoy it.

Here and There, Monaghan

Coffee meets, we would pay our own way, play meets, we would book our own room, expect the other couple to do the same. Single guys, would pay for the room, first meet anyway, only because they may be more likely to turn up and especially if they claimed they can accommodate and can't lol. Been stung once, never again.

On a first meet/date I've never had a man that hasn't offered to pay, but I will always say "are you sure? I don't mind paying half". I'd never insist and cause a fuss though. With someone that I see regularly we take turns.

I always expect to pay my share on a first meet. After that, it's ok to have one pay and the other pay the next time. I'll sometimes joke and say "you can pay for the three course dinners and I'll take us to McD's".

Also, if they're the ones doing the driving, I like to take that into consideration too.

I won't agree to a social meet unless I'm able to cover the bill tho and prefer to split it.

Here and There

Different rules for different situations.

On a date if I liked him and he wanted to pay, I’d let him and I’d pay next time. If I had no plans to see him again if insisting on splitting.

For Fab I always go halves.

I pay it all and I am glad to unless my date insists she contributes and then she can do so. The operative word however is insists as most dates would offer and I would decline the offer.

I cover the cost. I'm old school in that regard. I was brought up to respect and care for a lady, and that extends to holding out a chair, opening doors, picking up the tab, etc.

Bottom line... I'd never go on a date that I couldn't afford to cover the cost of in full.

I like a gentleman don’t get me wrong, but I don’t like everything being paid for me. I’m not comfortable with it at all. I’m much more comfortable paying half or taking it in turns.
