I have been working on my current company 3.5 years, and I have a great dislike for having to put my time sheet in daily. My previous 14 years in employment I rocked up done a days work sometimes overtime and went home. (Was transferred in to my current company by tupe so not technically my choice) - first 3 years were fine as the role I was doing I had some generic time codes that I can use

For me it feels like a total big brother, then over last 2 months I have been questioned by a senior manger why I have put so much time on a particular time code. My answer was well that’s how long it takes, and if you want us to go above and beyond what we do for this client then it will take nearly 4 times longer

My direct manager is supporting me as she is very much aware how long this takes but I think the senior manger is probably trying to understand is the situation is economically viable. I would honestly say if I take the piss working from home. Considering I start at 8 finish at 5, (supposed to only work 9-5 and often answer emails outside that period)

I wonder how other people deal with time sheets and questioned on how long things take in their roles and how do they deal with it.

I learned a long time ago to fatten out my jobs, so if job A takes 30 minutes then I'll book in 45. It gives me leeway incase I have an issue with the job, and also means when I do want to take the puss and drag a job out because I'm tired, it doesn't look like that to my employer because they only see the same set time per job.

The man wants to know that he is getting you to work yourself into an early grave for the money he pays you, the the bosses in between you and the man just want to make it look like their "middle managment" position is needed. Personally I think there are too many middle management guts in my place of work.

I used to work in a legal department where everything was recorded & billed in 6 minute blocks & I had to record 6 hours of chargeable work minimum per day. We were told to think about jobs whilst on the loo & bill for it!

Now I have a time sheet I complete daily with the time I start & finish with any breaks in between. Currently over 30 hours in credit due to working from home & never worked so hard. Never felt job satisfaction like I do right now

At the end of the day it’s down to the business how they want you to record your time.

I have always had to do it and its not a problem. I mainly work from home on various projects so people need to be billed for time spent. Better to fill out a time sheet and get paid and not doing its not getting paid.
