Addiction can be worse than cheating. It destroys the individual, the relationship and sometimes members of the family around them. All the while the addict will plead how much they love them. Cheating is simple by comparison.

I know that addiction is an illness etc but having experienced a brief and disastrous marriage to a gambling addict who couldn't tell the truth about the simplest thing I struggle to sympathise. I've also witnessed the havoc alcoholic partners and parents wreaks on their families lives and my sympathies lie mostly with the family.

Has anybody mentioned lack of listening skills?

I do not mean being able to repeat verbatim what the partner said, I am talking about really listening and checking out that we understood what they just said before jumping in with our (usually already prepared while they were talking) answer.

This would help so many relationships either improve dramatically or identify the mismatch, in which case people go their separate ways and find a new, better suited partner.

"Alcohol or gambling addiction

Yes. Any addiction really. They all lead to deceit and the addict puts the addiction before anything else.

I've also witnessed the havoc alcoholic partners and parents wreaks on their families lives and my sympathies lie mostly with the family."

Agreed. Made worse as addicts can use "addiction as illness" to hide the responsibility of their choice. Like a cheater saying they can't help it as they take off their underpants...

Isn't that a blessing, loving life now and do what and who I want

I would say low self esteem/being insecure as there is a direct correlation to that and cheating.

But outside of cheating, I'd say addictions (drugs, alcohol, gambling) and also stealing.

Gay friends who embrace the stereotype, everything a fucking drama and on the phone 24/7. 6am until 2am always messaging and phoning. The wife became a chameleon even getting the same breed of puppy. Wish they were straight so the (soon to be ex) wife could just fuck them and get it done. End of rant.
