Musty smell in washing machine help please.

As above.

I’m sure we’re supposed to keep the door open when not in use, trouble is it won’t stay part open, it just swings all the way out & gets in the way.

I have tried machine cleaner & all the tips online to no avail, the door seal is black & looks unpleasant but doesn’t come clean too, if this was replaced it would obviously look better, but would it cure the smell?

If yes how much & how big a job would that be? It’s wasn’t a cheap machine so not wanting to throw away just yet.

Try a dishwasher tablet on a 90' wash

No clothing in during the cycle though

I'm not great at DIY, but managed to replace the door seal on mine with one I got online without too much hassle.

Seem to be plenty of YouTube vids showing you how.

As for the smell, I don't know sorry, but if you think airing it will help and the door closes on itself, have you tried putting something over it to stop it?

You need to hinch it!

So cif do a mould spray which I think is the best but flash one is ok. Spray that inside leave 10 mins then scrub with a tooth brush. Wipe all residue away then wash well with a wet j cloth. To then freshen your machine use vinegar and bicarb and pop on a wash. But honestly google Mrs hinch she can get anything clean. Also you can always pop a bit of Zaflora in your machine too once you have got rid of the mould

More often then not it's to do with the drainage. Check the outflow pipe is set up correct with a U bend in it.

More than likely the outlet hose on the rear is full of silt.

Does the outlet hose end sit higher than 75% of the washing machine hight? If so that can lead to issues as heavy silt sits at the lowest point of the pipe.

Check behind the seal give it a good clean.

Also there will be a drain pug behind a flap on the front, that has a filter in and needs emptying.

If thats all good stick it on a 90° wash with bleach in and a dishwasher tablet.

Hey presto you no longer smell like a damp flannel.

Hi I did do a clean as suggested & it’s smelling better, I had to stop it half way as my machine automatically dispenses liquid & I forget to turn it off so I had foam coming out of the detergent drawer. Fortunately I was able to halt the program & restart without any liquid going in.

Bicarbonate of soda and some of those tumble dryer balls and a hot wash! I do mine once a month and it keeps the inside smelling lovely and clean! X

1/Try raising the temperature on your wash is often the oils that don't emulsify and don't drain out that smell as they break down slowly.

2/Clean the door rubbers and do an empty wash with a specialist cleaner.

The bleach boil wash is good then do an empty boil cycle after the bleach One save any accidental bleaching

The detergent drawer is one place that many people rarely clean but it needs taking out and cleaning regularly. Esp the part you put fabric softner in.

Using liquid or pods detergent can contribute to a musty smell and a mouldy doorseal, especially if you do mainly cool washes, as unlike powder, liquids don’t contain bleaching agents. I usually stick to powders for whites and liquids for darks and colours

Soda crystals Home bargains or B&M in a (green packet) quarter of a bag ,cup of white vinegar, zoflora (your choice ) put on a wash highest temperature you can. I do this once a month I also do it with my sink . Soda crystals,vinegar leave for 10 mins put a hot kettle down it smells amazing & lasts for a good while depending on how bad it is in the first place. Hope this works

Once you have got rid of the smell and when you have done your last wash that day, leave the soap dispenser drawer open a bit and the door open so air can circulate.Mop up any water in the seal area as that will prevent mould building up.

Put machine on at 90°, put in lots of bleach and vinegar directly into drum first. After 90° cycle put on another rinse cycle. Should work

It might be the washing detergent you use. Recently had an engineer come out to look at my washer, he took one look at the ‘eco friendly’ detergent and said that was causing the smell. He gets loads of call outs from a nearby town well known for their eco credentials. Ran some hot washes and changed detergent, seems to have sorted it.
