I am thinking of selling my 2 bedroom estate, go to Las Vegas and party my life to the funeral parlour.

What are your retirement plans?

As one who has already retired, 15 years ago, may I offer one suggestion and that is take out private health insurance.

As we are all living longer the pressure on the NHS will be intense.

I do not have health insurance and have been waiting over 2 years for knee replacements, my brother in law who has BUPA health insurance got his done within 6 weeks.

Sounds idyllic. Sadly not quite as straight forward anymore after 31.12. but hopefully still possible somehow.

Anyway, retire at 55, take the maximum tax free lump sums, front load the travel / holidays / fun while I’ve still (hopefully, fingers crossed!) got relatively good health and can do it, then see out the rest of my days as near to tranquility and the beach (whilst still being easy reach of essential facilities like hospitals etc) as I can!

My plans are simple, continue to embarrass my children by being even more eccentric, and live so close that when I phone or message the youngest constantly, to ask for something I could get/do myself, she has no excuse not to do it.

I joke of course, I won’t live close to her, I plan to live a fair distance away- still plan on texting her non stop though x

I've been thinking about this lately and I don't have the desire to travel like I once did. I'm already feeling burnt out and to be honest I think that my mind will be slipping if I make it to retirement age. Hopefully I'm wrong though, but I'm happy with where I am now and I see myself happily ticking over through retirement.

Hopefully I will die in my sleep before I become a burden to anyone or maybe live until I'm 100 years old then blow the candles out and fall face down into the cake .. Flop! Good bye

My private pension is presently accessible, so with redundancy starting next week, I've used part of my tax free cash to pay off my Mortgage early and the balance of a small loan.

With other financial plans in place, I can coast through till retirement in mid-May next year when I get my state pension.

I'm content with my next 7 months, then retire officially and continue to behave disgracefully.

London

I planned for an early retirement in 2021 (somewhere around May to July).

There are 2 things I really want to do in my early retirement:

1. Around The World (ATW) trip with One World airline alliance supposedly in 2022.

2. A cruise with Viking Ocean Cruise (In Search of the Northern Lights : London - Bergen) in 2023.

However due to the pandemic and some recent personal issues, the early retirement plan will be postponed to 3rd quarter of 2022 and those trips plan will be on hold for a while.

After that, I just want to enjoy my time and myself at my own pace. Too many things missed out being a workaholic.

Quite like the idea of working less into 50s/60s and spending longer periods in different countries, a few places we want to spend more time in like Seville , New York, Amsterdam, maybe rent the house out and spend 3-6 months at a time in a place working part time as working from home is the new normal for us. We met some people on here who do it, there’s a web site where you can doggy sit for rich people while they’re off on yatchs or whatever they do, enjoying their nice homes for free and walking thier dogs.
