Well I reach my official retirement age tomorrow, but I'm not sure I actually will give up work

1 not sure I can afford to

2 think I would miss it

3 don't know if my company may let me cut down my hours

As you can see I just can't make my mind up. Anyone got any good advice?

Do you have a hobby?

I think retirement is great if you have a hobby your passionate about.

Otherwise I’d keep working.

Man needs a purpose.

No I don't really have any hobbies apart from gaming

99% of organisations will make allowances or meet in the Middle with individuals in such matters.

Can you reduce your hours? Start drawing your pension and it will top up your wage. Best of both worlds.

I know people who do this and it works well.

I guess you need to look at what you need to do financially and then what you want to do.

You can go on to hmrc website and look at your state pension options and then you should look at any personal or work place pension schemes you have had or pay into and get your options. Often these should be sent annually as a review pack and definitely before whatever retirement age was set.

If you have any that you can take benefits from, do you need the lump sum to pay off a mortgage for example?

If you have a few dotted around it may be an idea to get some help from a financial advisor.

Lastly, you need to think about your needs for your partner and yourself in later life if things change.

Also, 2 things:

1. Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great one!

2. Haven’t you already made a decision? i.e. had to tell your employer / pension scheme if you want to draw your pension at 65 some weeks ago?

I will take retirement when I can officially in 3 years at 66, depends if u will think u b happy not working? Having been on furlough from end of march till end july I decided I will enjoy it very much ! Money will b tight but hopefully cut my cloth to my means if I can! Happy birthday for tomoz! Sooner the better as if they make plans for you to leave it harder for them to change

Thanks for the info everyone, some I have already checked some I haven't. My retirement age is 66. Which is tomorrow, I told the company I work for that I would not retire straight away also my pension company what or when I decide I will need to give them plenty of notice of my intention

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm considering everything at present, but think I should have thought about it earlier than now
