If I ever take a selfie, it's rare but I do sometimes, I consciously relax my face, just make a small smile rather than a broad grin and ensure my eyes smile too.

I usually take selfies when I'm looking awful anyway eg in the hairdressers with my hair on giant rollers or with a green face pack on so I'm laughing anyway

Don't give in to the tyranny of 'smiling selfies'. I rarely (very rarely (very very rarely)) smile in photos. Then there's always 'someone' who says 'smile don't look grumpy'. I don't looke grumpy - THIS IS HOW I LOOK! I don't walk around smiling all the time - I'M NOT A STRICTLY CONTESTANT.

Grinning isn't same as smiling. You don't have to show teeth if it's unnatural. The best smile is being naturally happy, that's what I was getting at. I don't have straight teeth at all but been told I have a cute smile .....Not sure if that is good or not but I'll take it!

My mouth does not turn up naturally. Doesn't mean I'm unhappy. It means I don't have an immediate stimulus to change my facial expression.

Some people don't smile as their default. Some people find it incredibly difficult to do on demand.

I'm a naturally smiley person, so I don't find it too difficult - but one thing I do is get the camera lined up, count to 3, think of something that makes me happy, and only smile as I press the button. It just stops it from looking unnatural after holding it for too long.
