What kind of old-fashioned manners......

do we still keep up because they are considered polite, respectful and we enjoy seeing them... and which manners traditionally considered good manners have outlived their purpose and pleasure?

Examples: How do we split the bill after a meal? When do we hold open a door?

I pride myself on my refined manners what, what.

Manners cost nothing and if they serve to brighten up even just a tad, someone else’s day, then even better say I.

I wouldn't say i have good manners far too on the nose with folks

its more with me do what i think is right is i like to protect and im crazy loyal so on the plus side im a german shepherd

I like sending thank you notes. I'm too independent to allow men to pay for me. But do like it when a bloke walks on the road side of the pavement. My mother's other half always insisted on it and I've always found it charming

I like holding hands and having a door opened for me.

I also like being “courted” in relationships. Wooed. That probably grates on most women these days but I’m a tad old fashioned with some things.

I don't mind paying for myself and all that...but I like when someone holds the door open for me etc

Last guy I met didn't and almost let the door hit my face. It's a complete turn off for me.

If I'm in a supermarket or shop queue..If I've got quite a few items and one behind me only one ,two or three items I always say " you go first"...

It's often more the case with me being single though..I have 1 item,and a person In front of me ( annoyingly only usually one)has a week's trolly full .. see's I've only got one item..but carries on regardless.... perhaps it's just me as I'm an impatient type !

Not sure how "paying" for everything equates to being a gentleman personally - in fact in some respects I'd suggest that insisting on paying for meals/drinks/hotels etc could come across as quite the opposite.

Good old fashioned courtesies however holding doors, allowing people to go ahead of me, walking on the road side of the pavement etc are all part of how I was bought up to behave but don't just reserve most of them for women but would do the same regardless of gender of the other person - it's called decency

I do like to see genuine and honest acts of kindess whoever it is!

We must remember that a lot of these courtesies were formed around women in an age when women were truly and actually seen as inferior to men and were suppressed in many different ways,

I think the best compliment you could you pay a woman in todays society is just treat as her as an equal and nothing more!

Really interesting to read through the different comments, thanks everybody.

So, are there any traditional gestures that we find outdated today? For example,the male paying for the female's meal seems to be no longer a default setting as women earn as much, sometimes more, and are frequently too independent to accept.

Are there manners we still see but cringe at the thought of them?

This. I'll only let him pay if I pay the next time (fwb) otherwise it's pay for yourself. All the other things I just love, and I try to do a lot of them myself. Decency, consideration, chivalry, whatever you call it.. Its dying out unfortunately.

I like respect communicated in social manners. I always hold doors, move aside appropriately for others etc. Helping to smooth the life of others, for minimal or no effort, is a no brainer.

I do like doors being opened in cars etc, to be charming but this is above basic respect

Everyone pays for their own dinner, unless one of you earns significantly more than the other, in which case the richest person pays.

People who don't have their hands full hold the door for people who do. Otherwise, whoever gets there first holds it.

If someone is cold and someone else isn't, give them a spare layer. If you're both cold, swap it back and forth. Even better: Share you body heat and maybe even do something nice and physical to get warm together.

Have sex *on top* of the duvet. Get under it when you're finished. That way nobody has to deal with any wet patches.

Learn to ride a horse and wield a sword. Then you can talk about "chivalry". It's also pretty hot riding into battle with someone you want to fuck.

I think it kind of does, sometimes women can pick and choose when they are a feminist. Guys are expected to jump through way many hoops these days, everything should be equal from the get go!

Good manners are hugely important to me because that's the way l was reared and plus l know my late dad would " knock my block off " if l didn't show them always ..( PS he wouldn't knock my block off literally ,it's just an expression ) but yes, manners = class and class is permanent.

I’m very traditional and girly and I love men to be gentlemen. Opening doors, walking you to your car, walking on the traffic side of the road, carrying bags etc. I do like it when a man offers to pay on a first date but as much so because then I can say well we need a second so I can pay. If I’m not interested in a man I won’t let him pay and will insist on paying for my own

For some reason we still say "Bless you" when somebody sneezes. I am told that it is polite. I personally think it's a load of utterly pointless crap and I campaign for people to stop saying it. My campaign slogan is:

People sneeze. Get over it.

Good.I never feel comfortable when someone wants to shake hands..It seems a very common gesture around Muslim population so obviously a polite thing,just always seems a bit not right if you get my drift
