Somewhere In The Ether…

We all suffer little short term memory glitches or as I like to term the phenomenon, ‘Brain Farts’ from time to time.

Lethologica describes the sudden inability to recall and summon the correct word for something; ‘Hey, look at Dave sitting on that.....er.....um....(???!!!)

Lethonomia on the other hand denotes the sudden inability to recall a correct name; ‘Hey, how are you doing ..... er.....Sarah? No....Jane? Mildred?

With the above in mind (or possibly forgotten already) - what was the most recent, or if you can remember it, the most embarrassing brain fart you can ever recall making/suffering?

Remember, we’re all very kind in here and neither I, nor anyone else here will laugh at your forgetful shame...... ( )

Under the Duvet

I've always found names challenging. A group meeting with a load of new people is my idea of hell. They introduce themselves, I hear blahblahblah, instantly forgotten.

The Facility

I suffer with nominal aphasia (word retrieval failures which means sometimes I cannot express the words I want to say (particularly nouns and verbs). It's a symptom of B12 deficiency and extremely common although doctors don't test for it routinely.

I used to be acutely stressed about not being able to articulate properly or remember words like ladder (having to describe it instead) and thinking I was stupid, but actually, that's not the case.

There's have been plenty of embarrassing moments though - I just can't remember them

I used to pride myself on my very scrupulous memory and attention to detail. At some point after turning 25, that all went out the window.

Fear not! This is actually a very common phenomenon and even has a name; The Doorway Effect.

I'm terrible with names, especially when attending a new placements of work trying to remember all service users names, it's caused a couple embarrassing yet funny conversations

I’m very sorry to hear that x I must confess I’d not previously read up on the vitamin link. A fascinating phenomena though.

We’re often told that our brain cells cease to renew as quickly after a certain young age.

After this age....it’s all down hill

I must admit that I’ve forgotten a good few in my time and always at the most inopportune moments.

As a result, I have had to try and steer the conversation around actually referring to the person by their (utterly forgotten!) name.

I’ve made quite an art of it in fact

Worthing

A message reminder popped up on phone and it was 'short-hand'. I cannot recall what the heck it meant!

I'm constantly forgetting the names of things especially the toaster (or 'the thing which makes bread brown'). Opening a cupboard or walking into a room and forgetting why I've just done that. Losing my train of thought in the middle of a sentence.

Shit happens ... I just don't know why

I often forget names of actors and actresses - despite the fact that I know them well under normal circumstances.

I actually forgot Pierce Brosnan’s name the other day whilst trying to describe a film he was in (Dante’s Peak) to someone and ended up referring to him as the guy who used to play James Bond and had a bloody awful singing voice in Mama Mia

I didn't know there was a name for it. Good tip about the vitamin deficiency.
