its an internationally agreed method of calulation based on results between international teams!!!!!!no one just sits down and writes a list.

there will always be anomalies but they have to work it out one way or other.

The Fifa world rankings are compiled every month taking the last four year's results into account, with ranking points accumulated according to: results; the importance of the matches played; the strength of opposing teams.

Points are awarded for each win or draw each team has, a weighting of performance and a weighting for ranked qualifying games.

England had a very good qualifying tournament, and we only lost one game at Euro 2012, hence the position at No.4.

Brazil are lowly placed in 11th spot because as hosts of 2014 they have not had to play any preliminary or qualifying matches.

England never lost a game a the euros that's why they got more points , yes on pens they did but that doesn't count ?! So thats the way it is .

Portugal barely quailifed and as someone has said Brazil are only playing friendlies .

I think im right in saying that Uruguay won the south American championship and seen as we've just had the euros it's always gonna be European team top heavy

Although if you consider the bare facts, and how the coefficients are derived maybe ol Roy isn't that bad. Maybe playing a brand of football that has them turning off in their droves is the way forward.
