Mmmmmm...

A portion of chipshop chips...

Take them home, unwrap and sprinkle salt on them... Leave to cool whilst getting a pan of oil smoking hot...

Chips into oil... 5 minutes... Remove and shake onto kitchen paper...

Lightly salt and malt vinegar...

Yummmmmmm..

We have a deep fryer in our kitchen, don't think we'll ever go back to oven chips - such a difference.

And there's nothing unhealthy about chips unless (just like absolutly everything else) you eat silly quantities. Staying fit and healthy isn't all about martyring yourselves, people!

Oooh - don't!

Years ago, I used to work next door to the best chip shop in the world...

Beautiful, succulent fresh-landed fish and well-cooked chips, covered in vinegar... utterly gorgeous...

I would buy them and wander down the hill to the harbour, then sit on the breakwater under the castle, savouring every taste as the easy waves washed in beneath a warm summer sun......

Happiness.....

good animal fat cooks at a higher temp so is best, I prefer goose fat for me roast taters (par boiled first) but thats a bit expensive for chips.

Haha my fryer takes just under 3l, dread to think what that woukd cost in goose fat!
