Just watched the shining, what a brilliant film, why doesn't Stephen King like it? It's great, and the omen is great too. Love a good horror film.

It's nothing like the book, Kubrik begged King to let him film it and then spent the best part of two years writing a treatment which utterly ignored anything King did with the characters.

For the best I think! One of those films that's way better than the book.

So many hidden messages regarding the rumours of Kubrick filming the alleged fake moon landings in '69...

Such an awesome movie that's let down by the ending... Sadly most Stephen king movies suffer the same thing :/

"Such an awesome movie that's let down by the ending... Sadly most Stephen king movies suffer the same thing :/"

The problem is Stephen King doesn't know how to finish a story.

Most have shit (or maybe just unenjoyable) endings, which makes it tricky for films to stick to the book.

Most IMHO would be worse if they kept to the story.

Yep couldn't agree more... Don't think any have really finished the story

As someone else has said, this is the best book adaption ever. Its a piece of cinematic art, a straight adaption wouldn't have been.

Love the music, midnight with the stars and you. Very sophisticated, 20s ballad, people well dressed,

It was Stanley Kubricks vision and not his. Later they made one for tv which was supposedly more his vision.

Watch the documentary “Room 237” for an examination of the various alleged “meanings” of the Shining. These include faking the moon landing, condemnation of Native American exploitation and genocide, commentary on the Holocaust.

It’s a really interesting watch.

D & G

It's a wonderful film but then it's Kubrick so it's pretty much bound to be.

It does deviate from the book a fair bit, but for the better I believe. Dr. Sleep, the sequel of the book and movie, does a pretty fine job of pulling it all back to where King wanted. It's not as good but well worth a watch.

I've always wondered if the 'red rum' scene was written/ filmed before we had the great grand national horse red rum....that scene always makes me think why's he going on about a race horse..

"If anyone has the film.. Something I want you to do as your won't have noticed.

There is a scene where Jack's family is being shown the hotel. They walk through the great hall. There are people milling about. Look behind at the wall. There's a guy cleaning a cupboard in the clothes Jack wears and keeps in later in the film.

This scene here, blink and your miss it. "

A lot of the scenary changes.

The caretakers names different when jack meets him in the toilet when cleaning down the jacket which a man is wearing when him and his wife walk past when being showed round after the interview.
