There used to a free one day festival in Southampton when I was a kid that was called power in the park, loved that but I don't really go to watch live music normally.

At the time she was in the area, it was my-then partner's birthday. She always hoped she would see Anastacia one day. I randomly woke up the day before her birthday, had an email from a well-known ticket distributor. Checked, thought 'why not?' and bought 2 last minute tickets on a whim. Cost me more than I could afford plus a whole bunch of 'I owe you' for babysitting etc. Totally worth it. The joy and happiness on her face as she sang along with her idol just 20 feet away...those tickets were 4th row

Wolf whistled her during a quiet slow song and she stopped to find out who had whistled, totally put her off and she dedicated the rest of the song to me

Too hard to try and name the best gigs, been to soooo many...

Moments that stuck out

* Big country audience refusing to stop singing 'Chance' woooo parts, or loosing time or speeding up, that they came out and picked up the song again to carry on singing. Never forget Stuart beaming smile.

* Damien Rice at MEN Arena turning all electrics off, including lights and performing 'Cannonball' alone. Audience didn't make a sound, both eerie and magical.

* Seeing Rival Sons for the first time (while supporting another band and knowing nothing of them) and wondering "who are these!!!"

* Pink Floyd on the 'Delicate Sound of Thunder tour" - mouth agog the whole time.

* Being front and centre at both a NiN and Rush huge arena gigs are pretty special.

I could go on.....

What a entertainer, saw him 5 times.

The Pioneers.

For those who don't know them, they are a reggae band, started mid 60's and through into the 70's.

Desmond Dekker.

Another great reggae artist, sadly no longer with us.

Jimmy James and The Vagabonds.

A excellent soul band who started in the 60's and was even bigger in the 70's.

Saw them mostly in the 80's

Eddie Van Halen stopping his set, during the Bon Jovi 'Crossroads' tour here in Cardiff Arms Park, because the crowd didn't "get it".

He told his band to, umm, take time off. And he filled their slot by sitting on the edge of the stage and jamming for 20 minutes solo before Thunder came on.

James Taylor Quartet at the Phoenix festival especially their half hour take on the Starsky & Hutch theme tune.

Therapy? headlining Reading Festival after Soundgarden pulled out.

Cinderella at the Hammersmith Odeon.

The Levellers Brixton Academy (the whole day and night ended up being a experience).

Chumbawumba and New Model Army both excellent live.

I remember power in the park!! They really need to bring that back! Victorious is probably the closest thing to that now or the 80s one in Southampton!! Hoping to get to both of those next year if things ever get back to normal!

Saw them at Donington in 1984 and in 2009 at Wembley. Yep, got to agree, best live band with an amazing crowd reaction. Mum, Dad, brothers and nephews are also fans (Mum and Dad are not even big fans of rock but like Angus and co!)

James - I go through every emotion possible at their gigs

Robyn - so much energy. I was completely in awe of how one person could command the stage like her, it took me about a fortnight to come down from the high and the energy of her performance

I’ve had so much fun going to Gigs and everyone is special for its own many reasons ...If though as the Highlander might say “ there can be only one ! “ it would have to be the Ramones at Brixton academy... The only time the mosh pit went right back to the bar .. there was just no escape from the noise

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Reel Big Fish, Goo Goo Dolls (and many more) were all excellent. Tenacious D are also fantastic live, really, really good fun too

I was lucky to see some very exiting concerts

- Cream, the last concert in the Albert Hall, after that the three decided they they still don't like each other and will not go on tour, but the concert was a blast

- BB King

- John Mayall with Gary Moore

And a lot of great concerts in Hyde Park: the Who, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and my others

Firstly, I’d like to. Apologise for cheesing people off with my answer. I’m a snob when it comes to gigs - I use to organise them, started going to basement punk shows before I could drive, and was regularly given guest list access in uni thanks to being a college radio station DJ when and where it mattered (US early 2000).

So here are my rules - I only go to where the capacity is less than 2000 people. Any bigger and the atmosphere is sorely affected. Also tickets must be less than £25 any more expensive and the artist’s reps are a dick. I do buy merch as that is where the bands make their money. Also don’t arrive to early or late - some of the best bands I’ve seen are support acts. Figure out when the venue needs to cease loud music (usually 10 or 11) and how many acts are on the ticket, then work backwards - contracts stipulate that bands need to be on stage for no shorter than 45min (some of course, play a lot longer than this) and it’s about 15 - 30 min turnaround between each act.

So best bands live - !!! Had no idea who they were as they were a support act. The energy was insane! Headliner Les Savy Fav also killed it by literally swinging from the ceiling above the crowd. More current Grandson in Glasgow in 2019 was phenomenal. He was able to get the whole crowd (and I mean everyone) to crouch down during a part of a song and then leap up. I haven’t seen a mosh pit like that since grunge hey day.

You can’t get that at stadium gigs!

Courteeners is just a stupid night where you buzz

Oasis is nostalgic and you sing and love the music

Coldplay was the best 'show' i went to with the lights and balloons.
