I'm not really sure how that would work. I wouldn't want to go to a GUM clinic at a swing club - not sure how many NHS staff would be comfortable running a clinic in such a location.

or the clinic runs tests during club night

It seems very inconvenient to move the GUM clinics from ermmmmmm Clinics to clubs.

If you mean EXTRA clinics where is the money coming from ?

What proprietor want's their club associated with the reality of disease ?

Which users want to be seen coming out of the clinic area ?

Who guarantees the hygiene of the rooms to be used ?

The list is endless....

GUMs have been doing this sort of outreach for years. Certainly since 1995 when I worked in sexual health.

Yes I have heard its good there... and I know the attic hold ones once a month too... and it is very sucessful

I think its a good idea... as some people for all the good advice are actually concerned about being seen at clinics..

Can't see a problem with anything that will help educate and promote peoples health, it's a good a place as any in a club for those that would feel comfortable going there, but only as an extension of the regular clinics most visit.

My son goes to the sauna places in London and does the HIV testing but that is male only and literally just the snap test.

I think testing at a GUM clinic is probably better . But what do i know.

I don't think it offers a good enough service, yes maybe as an outreach where you can get a chlymdia test, but only in addition to a full screening in a clinic not instead ot.

I doubt whether there would be a qualified doctor on site, probably not even a qualified nurse, a health care assistant I should imagine and whilst they are well able to carry out some testing, they are not qualified to prescribe the medication required nor give out advice as a doctor or nurse advisor would, if a qualified prescriber was employed then who would foot the cost of this. And of course if medication is given then there would have to be emergency measures in place in case a patient had an adverse effect to medication.

The room would not be up to the infection control standards that are deemed necessary and therefore exposing the patient to infection risk and not really set up for an intimate examination.

The whole thing poses too high a risk and not cost effective.

i know this practice is quite common already in 'gentlemans health spas'

i wouldn't want twiddling about with in a club tbh

if needles and scrapes and such like are being used i would want as sterile as an environment as possible

as clean as some clubs are, i wouldn't say they were sterile

this was discussed yday during a training thing i went and it was noted:

gay clubs and websites associate more with GUM clinics and encourage members to approach them more and they also link to websites etc

however hetro sites and swinging sites they are struggling due to the sites and clubs feeling it would put members off or the idea members dont want or need em

i was shocked that gay sites try so hard to encourage while hetro sites dont but by looking on fab an others i can see what was said an meant

surley if there is a member of gum there or can be contacted if members need it would be a good thing as the person said yday they seen it all before and its not their business they only offer the advice an screenings

Its on a monday once a month and is run in a professional manner the staff are lovely and you have a private room and get results within 10 days i think its a great idea we have used it they are there into the evening so perfect for people who dont have time to go to gum clinic normall so you can kill two birds with one stone

chams do blood screening in the tv room that has been closed off for the purpose and has been cleaned as long as the needles are sterile that are being used and the tubes samples are taken in are there is as much chance as infection as there in the nurses clinic in your gps. The staff were medically trained professionals who were very useful at going through everything with us they then said they would text if we needed to get in touch to make arrangements to go see our gp for medication. i think its a fantastic idea and should be more commonly avilable in more clubs. It encourages people to be more responsible for their sexual health the amount of people i have met who have never been screened but have had unprotected sex is remarkable

One of the reasons HIV has not wreaked as much havoc here is because of the outreach clinics into gay clubs. It is not a cheap service to run but it is a lot more cost effective than managing long term sexual health conditions.

They are run by qualified NHS staff and often get those that have never been to a GUM.

I'm afraid you are wrong in saying that the TV room at Chams is as clean as a hospital who employ specialist cleaning schedules for clinical areas. Just because an area looks clean, that does nopt mean that the room is sterile and bacteria free. Its not the same as cleaning your own house.

I doubt VERY much that they are actually offering any examinations other that urine testing for chlamydia and maybe blood tests. The prime reason for going is to raise the profile of the importance of regular testing, offering information of local GUM clinics, dishing out condoms and up to date info on treatment and prevention of STI's. For example, did you know that if you think you have been exposed to HIV, you can access treatment within 72 hours of exposure that greatly reduces the risk of transmission?

I know of swingers who don't even know what chlamydia is and one who has not been tested for over two years. At a club recently, one bloke asked the man I was with if we wanted him to use a condom.

For a start there are carpets in there, so not wipeable after patients, there are fabric sofas, sop not wipeable, there are no handwashing facilities in that room, it is not enough to don a pinny, a pair of gloves and to just stick a bit of alcohol gel on your hands between patients. "
i never said it was as clean as a hospital but it was clean and there arent carpets in there its laminate florring but thats by the by i felt the idea was a great idea and there was a queue so i think it is getting used regularly as i said it is done by trained staff and thats important i actually reffered it to my doctors nurses room which is where i normally get checked i have seen the nurse open the door after a patient and just ask me to go straight in with no sanitation between patients other than alcohol rub so thats what im basing this opinion on we are all allowed to our own opinions and felt i had to praise chams for the work they do promoting sexual health.

It is a popular service so im going to say some people do want it in a club.

I am not saying it isn't a good service to raise awareness but I think that people attending would think that's all they have to do and not bother going for a full screening. Its ok as a stop gap.

If the nurses at your gp's don't wash their hands between patients when doing sexual health screening then you ought to challenge it. Alcohol gel does not clean dirty hands it just disinfects.

I think its a great idea for information purposes and to raise awareness but I would go to a clinic for a full screening as I know I'm getting access to a doctor and I can be prescribed medication there and then should I require it and I'm receiving proper medical care.

Just the thought of sitting on a sofa which will have bodily fluids ingrained into the fabric and having bloods taken doesn't appeal to me.
