"OK guys n girls, a 'sensible' question for you all How long can you keep things in the freezer AFTER their use by date? Going through everything today, and have things there that are 6 months out. Safe to eat still of chuck away? " Chances are safer than Covid so go for it

"The small print is too damn small to read! Haha Sod it... chucking it all, not worth taking any risks Oh well, Asda are gonna get a bonus from today's shop then " What is it tho? Was it fresh meat you then froze or frozen meat that's since gone out of date? If it was fresh you then froze it will be fine, just do the normal thing of defrost and once defrosted cook within 24 hours

"It's normally about a month I think " In the catering trade it's good practice to discard anything frozen over 3 months old Fuzz

"In theory, indefinitely. It'll just taste shit past a certain point. In practice most people don't have perfectly working freezers, now brownouts etc. So it's worth keeping on top of things - personally I try to make sure that all food I have is on the menu for the next two weeks, and I try to empty it for cleaning every six months." Reminds me that mine needs defrosting

"It's normally about a month I think In the catering trade it's good practice to discard anything frozen over 3 months old Fuzz I defer to your better knowledge " As kitten tamer pointed out, it's more to do with food quality. Try to just buy what you need and rotate everything, ie. Most in date stuff at the back, close to going out of date at the front to be used first Fuzz

"funny thing is, I was also a chef for about 4 years before the boss moved to Spain... God I loved rhat job. I should know about food life, but its been a long time since I worked in that industry. " Its been a good few years for me too. I do miss it

"It depends what it is really. I was a chef for 15 years and although as Fuzz said, its good practice to not keep for for longer than 3 months, its not really the same at home. A whole chicken for example can be kept for up to a year. Pork chops inbetween 4-6 months whilst a full joint again anywhere up to 12 months. Raw steak is good for up to a year too. Fish is a funny one. Lean fish is ok for 6-8 moths but fatty fish is considerably less at 2-3 months. I hope this doesn't come across as rude. " You're so right Glad you had the inclination to type that out Fuzz
