On the back of the fireworks thread....not particularly bothered about them, per se, but the meaning of what is obviously a reference to bonfire night....should we still be celebrating the destruction of an attempted Catholic overthrow of the monarch?

After all, if it was based upon an anti "coloured" agenda we would be rightly outraged, wouldn't we?

Pagans might say that fireworks night is as much a celebration of Samhain or the Autumnal Equinox. Fires are lit and loud noises are used to drive demons out of the trees and soil before they poison them and ruin the next harvest.

Awk people are changing too much things these days, I say let people have their sparklers. As for the pires, as long as they are looked after and burned safely then I don't see the issue.

I think the discourse and motivations for fireworks night have changed, now its a family event where little kids (at heart) stare at the sky and go.....ooohhh!!

So it should stay.

On the other hand, we live in an age where we topple statues to long dead people, their trade and their mentality, and rename streets to hide our past, which most either arent aware of, or would disagree with when the facts are known....so...anything is possible in the upside down.

Just ban them! Dont need to see the dogs/cat quivering in the corner! Or hiding under the bed! God knows how the wildlife deal with them either! Have a friend who has horses she has to camp on the field they in on the organized night at the pub near by hopefully that wont b happening this year at least x
