Even though my profile says that I am not interested in anyone over an hour's drive, I still get messages from opportunists several hours drive drive from so it got me to thinking about how much time is involved in meeting me depending on where they are.
I picked out a few people from my looked at list and used RAC Route Planner to find out how long it would take them to drive to me, plus 2 hrs for the social chit chat. I have rounded up to the nearest hour to cover for any traffic jams etc:-
Callington, Cornwall is 2 hrs and 53 mins, so that's 8 hrs for them, 20 mins to the pub about 2hrs 40 mins for me
Plymouth is 2 hrs 39 mins, so again 8 hrs for them, 2hrs 40 mins for me (I do get an awful lot from here)
Edinburgh is 6 hrs and 4 mins, that's 14 hrs, 2 hrs and 40 mins for me
Glasgow (yes and he offered to come down during his week off until I mentioned how far he was from me ) 5 hrs 34 mins, 14 hrs for him, 2 hrs and 40 mins for me
Bournemouth is 2 hrs 20 mins, say 6.5-7 hrs for him, 2 hrs 40 mins for me
Taunton is 1hr and 48 mins, 6 hrs for him, 2 hrs and 40 mins for me
Eastbourne is 3 hrs and 20 mins, so that's 7 hrs for him, 2 hrs and 40 mins for me
Let's look at it from another angle, say me and Mr Glasgow arrange to meet at a pub in Gloucester at 8pm, I leave my house at 7.40-7.45 pm, for him to get to the pub for 8 pm, he would have to leave his house at 3pm We then have general chit chat and part company around 10 pm, I get home at 10.20 pm ish, he will get home at 4am
If we met halfway, he would have to leave around 6 pm if not before in case the traffic is bad and will arrive home around 1 am. That is still 6 hrs out of his and my day for a meet, I prefer to stick to an hour's drive more though for financial reasons than anything else but whilst I may miss out on some lovely men or not, I couldn't let someone travel several hours to meet me, it just doesn't seem right at all |
