My imaginary friend is bigger than your imaginary friend in my mega church.

I think it’s mostly around money making as opposed to religion. Do you remember the song by Genesis “ Jesus he knows me” that made the point of money making from religion.

With a population of almost 30 million people that would allow an average of 600 people at each church. Most churches can accommodate that many though. I should imagine all 50000 are still pretty busy though.

Religion is a profitable business!

There and to the left a bit

By contrast, England which is at least 8 times smaller geographically and about twice the size by population has 16,000 churches - so not really sure what point you're making OP?

Apparently that’s just the C of E churches, add in approx 2000 more for catholic and another 2000 for baptist.

Land mass of Texas is approx 2.5 times than of uk but with approx half the population.

Possibly more churches for more settlements but smaller congregations at each?

I love statistics

Especially as religious organisations and workers pay no tax.

Fortunately religion is on the decline in America.

The Hollywood Mega monster churches with thousands of members bump up the numbers and intimidate the smaller services to keep going.

So? Have you ever actually considered the size of Texas? It's massive. Medium sized country massive. It's inevitable that it needs a large number of places of worship.

_____

Also, it's lovely and reassuring to see so many open minded, tolerant swingers being so condescending and judgemental about a person's chosen religious beliefs.

When the Religious stop indoctrinating and touching children! Then ill stop condescending the religious.

How about that ?

So, I take it that you don't watch television programs, listen to music, watch sport or follow politics then? Given that all these (and more) have well documented cases of paedophilia and mo-lestation too?

I wouldn't want to disparage the beliefs of individual worshippers, but some of these Southern evangelical churches were pretty vocal about AIDS being God's punishment for licentiousness. I keep wondering what they're making of Covid, and particularly how to explain their cult leader Trump getting it.
