I’m so sad tonight

Regular lurker, newbie & occasional poster.

However I’m not sleeping tonight as my darling baby boy cocker spaniel has just had to be put to sleep.

The most gorgeous & loyal boy I have ever known, he was only 4

Beats all the men hands down best companion ever!

So sorry to read this OP.

It's one of the hardest things ever to handle but he's no longer in pain or discomfort or confused about either, and that's what you have to hold on to.

Sending huge hugs and I do hope that you can remember the joy without pain some day soon.

He was a cocker spaniel and was a twat most of the time but he was my twat and I will miss his presence greatly. He was also more gorgeous than any man I’ve known and gave the best cuddles.

oh my goodness, this is heartbreaking, only 4? If you had to do that then, I know you must (as anyone would have) exhausted all options and this would be the reluctant last. As was with my golden retriever Hollie-nothing could be done, was the last thing I could do to love that pup, to not let her suffer anymore. Sounds to me like you looked after that little fella to the very very end. I might be wrong, but I think he might even have known that you would do everything for him, and that his Mum loved him forever. Please get a new Cocker in his honour, I suspect that your little fella would like that from the other side..

I had a dog sent to sleep 12 months ago who I'd had for 16yrs. My brave little traveller had followed me to Australia to live for 10yrs and back again.

I feel your pain OP.

Indeed. One well-beloved collie would pass wind (silent but deadly). You just had to say her name and she would sheepishly slink from the room.

oh my goodness, this is heartbreaking, only 4? If you had to do that then, I know you must (as anyone would have) exhausted all options and this would be the reluctant last. They think he had toxic poisoning, possibly from a garden mushroom, but not sure. He had drips, blood plasma, glucose, vit k and oxygen, scans etc.. But unfortunately had a brain bleed late tonight. The vets were fantastic and the nurse said he was the cutest and she would give him a cuddle and hold his paw and give him a kiss from me.. They called me straight afterwards to say it was peaceful. My heart is broken and have to break it to the kids tomorrow.

I know everyone deals with grief in different ways but try to remember a funny thing about him everyday, it won't stop the pain but might make it slightly easier to bear x

Mines 12, with cancer so I know its not far off and tears well everytime I think of it but we make a good memory every single day together
