I'm not gonna get along with someone who treats other people like shit, if I tried to for the sake of "getting" I may spontaneously combust.... and I've only just decorated a couple of rooms so that would be a right waste.

I can disagree with people and do it respectfully, most of those I despise I ignore. But naaawwwww, I ain't painting a picture of sweetness and light when it aint true. Keeping it real bruv

For the most part, I think that we do all get along on here. From what I've observed in my lifetime, the vast majority of people have much more good in them than bad and just want to live a peaceful life?

Also, even though someone is usually nice on here, it doesn’t mean they don’t think bad thoughts sometimes. They have just learned, or prefer to not show them, or to rise above them and not pick fights or be argumentative.

If you watch any documentary on chimpanzees, who are our closest chromosomal cousins, you’ll see how atrocious THEIR behavior is, and you may think to yourself, wow, instead of hoping for "nice" and us all getting along, maybe I should just be thankful I don’t get faeces tossed in my face.

There and to the left a bit

Think of Fab as a microcosm of life OP - you don't get on with everyone there, so why would it be any different here?

Life isn't always rainbows and cute puppies and nor is here - people will disagree, people will have different opinions, people will like each other and people will loathe each other, people will put on a facade of sweetness and light and people will show their true colours etc etc ad infinitum - and you can't expect that much of a mix to get on all of the time.

So long as people remain respectful and stay within site rules then that is the best you can hope for.

One things for sure though as my dearest Princess Peach said, I'm not about to put on any kind of false pretence around people I don't like, nor am I going to *not* express an opinion (that isn't derogatory) because it might upset someone - that kind of fakery is just not me.

I think the suggestion that everyone in here is embroiled in bitter arguments is greatly exaggerated.

Though lets be honest if you go anywhere in life expecting everyone to agree with you and follow the same ideals youre in for a shock.

The worst that happens in here, is being on the receiving end of a terse comment.

If you wear rose coloured spectacles expect them to get broken occasionally.

You have to be yourself to connect with people with a similar mindset.

I'm a realist and want to meet people who are true to themselves.

Very true.

Being yourself sometimes means butting up against people who are very different, if they choose to be themselves. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

I can and do compromise but I choose how to do so carefully.

"Think of Fab as a microcosm of life OP - you don't get on with everyone there, so why would it be any different here?

Are you being serious or ironic?

Perfectly serious, not sure where there's any irony in what I said?"

You don't remember saying Covid-19 wasn't serious because Worldometer has adverts on their site? Don't remember when time proved me to be justified in what I was saying, that you were not prepared to admit you had been wrong. Instead made me out to be an evil person for pointing out that I had been correct. As if I was then dancing on people's graves.

When I was right, I was wrong. And when I was right I was wrong for pointing out that I had been right.

So everything you wrote above is laughable. Perhaps you need to go back to those threads and see what you wrote.

I don't need to go back to those threads to know that I stand by everything I said based on what was *known* at the time I wrote them - as for your "interpretation" of what was said I can't do anything about that other than assure you it's your interpretation and nothing more - I certainly didn't state any of what you are suggesting.

Yes, time has proved you correct and I hold my hand up to that, just as I hold my hand up to challenging things that were being said when it was not quite so black and white.

If you find that and what I have said above laughable, then that is of course your prerogative, but again I stand by all I said both at the time and above.

I also don't think there's any point in raking the coals further, it's plainly obvious we disagree and I'm perfectly happy to agree to disagree and leave it at that, so shan't be responding further.

Let me play your game then.

You are wrong. I won't provide an argument as to why you are wrong as I feel that I am so superior to you that I don't feel the need to provide a counter argument. Me saying you are wrong is proof enough.

I will now refuse to engage you on the subject since this would actually require me to come up with facts and logic to substiate my stance.

I shall now go back to virtue signalling.

I think compassion and empathy are seen as weakness until people realise that principles underpin them.

Isn't that just the nature of the fab forums though fella? On the more serious topics some folk will want to tell you what they think rather than what they know, and they often insist their view carries more weight than yours while they rarely seem to care about what you think or how you feel, just as long as what they're saying is making them feel good or appear good? Challenge is mostly futile because, well if the above is true then it's unlikely to yield mutual personal growth or agreement on any level. Bottom line for me is that what angry or upset strangers with a point to prove online think of you or I really isn't that important in day to day life and if you give them enough rope, then, you know..... Imho it's best to just let it drift on by and focus on what really matters if you can....

For me it's the sad side of human nature when we can't all recognise, respect and love each other as human beings at least on a basic level. Like, even if I disagree with someone, I don't want to upset them, even if they've upset me. Each person has family and friends etc and how we treat them carries through to those people and in turn those ppl's ppl.l and ripples out...

Debate hard and healthily, but please also try to spread some love too, especially in challenging times, innit...

Hey I'm all for a good debate. In fact I want people to push back. I've learned a lot on these forums. If I am wrong and can prove it, I won't just accept that, I'll thank you for it.

But to have someone come on here, belittle you in a patronising manner and then run away when challenged isn't exactly heroic. To then have that person posting about how they own the moral high ground just makes me laugh. But I guess when you have a big enough fan club facts aren't relevant, just ask Donald Trump

In my opinion the sure sign of a poor argument is the need to stoop to personal attacks rather than present a counter argument.

You will notice that Donald Trump does this often. If he gets asked a question he can't answer or finds awkward he attacks the person asking the question rather than addressing the question itself.

The sign of someone honest and intelligent is someone who considers the evidence and at least contemplates a modification to their position. It's been fascinating to watch over the course of the pandemic those who can and those who can't.

Identity, belonging, defined through exclusion. It does seem to be hard wired into us
