A death in custody

A Police Sergeant has been shot dead in a custody unit in Croydon by a prisoner. RIP.

A senior officer responded to questions as to how a prisoner could have entered with a firearm,by criticising general judgement of officers when searching or handcuffing being the root cause.

Have we lost the middle ground?

Our police officers are over worked and under paid and a man lost his life because of it.

Such a devastating day

I think we lost the middle ground a long time ago.

I have not seen the comments from the officer you refer to, but now is not the time to be criticising or speculating. We have enough of that from the general public.

Yes it’s natural for people to be questioning how this was possible but today is not the day.

its always a good thing to see where things went wrong so lessons can be learnt but now is not the time.

I saw that the custody Sargent was just weeks away from retirement, that really made me feel even more sad.

Retired officers should never venture forth to express views on the media. The minute they leave they are the past. The only people who know the facts are those investigating it, let’s leave it to them.

RIP and thoughts with his family and loved ones.
