Personally I think they're fine between friends who know each other is cool with it. Men just making them broadly or to strangers is often not cool though.

"Personally I think they're fine between friends who know each other is cool with it. Men just making them broadly or to strangers is often not cool though. "

Yeah I agree. I’m sure we all know which friends we can send what to! I find most things funny. I have a child with special needs and neither of us wanted people walking on hot coals around us and not telling jokes etc which we would have laughed at before. That’s life. If it’s personal or words are used that I really don’t like used around me then I’ll say otherwise it takes a bloody lot to offend me. x

Maybe I didn't explain myself, but it feels very related and relevant to me. I just meant that we wouldn't normally tell jokes laughing at someone purely based on their race, so why would we do it based on their sex, it's a backwards step imho. We don't tell jokes about Irish ppl because it belittles them and carries through into real life prejudice. I think its the same with sexism - why promote it even with friends, there's funnier shit to talk about surely.....?

I guess that's up to you isn't it, and it's freedom of speech in a way. We can't tell people what they must think and what goes in in private is just that so I wouldn't tell you or anyone else what to do. I don't personally find stuff like that funny though, I'd like my daughter to grow up in a world relatively free from it if possible.

I honestly find this a very difficult question to answer.

I think with the right people, it's ok as long as you're all on the same page and can see it as a joke. But really, is it ok? I mean we can all brush it off and say it's only a joke but there are people out there who genuinely believe and think these jokes are completely fine and by us continuing to tell them we are adding to an existing problem and normalising it in a way, people won't see an issue with it if we all say it is normal to be a sexist pig.

I don't know if what any of I said made any sense lmaooo but I am a bitch who does laugh at sexist jokes sometimes and I feel like a piece of shit I am not sure on my feelings on this to be honest *screams in confused*

I think we've basically said the same thing. Between friends you know don't actually believe it you can laugh almost because it's not actually even close to true. When they're just made openly it can legitimise the views of those who actually believe that stuff and if it's to strangers they don't know you well enough to know whether you actually believe it or not.

Unless it's in extremely meta contexts, like, neither of us think this is actually funny and we're laughing at the bigotry behind it or the fact someone would say such a thing in the first place.

You ought to see his new show, JDTV, excellent viewing

Jimmy Jones was worse! Very similar though "

Back in the day I thought they were funny but I must admit I cringe now. I don’t find them that funny at all. Chubby Brown I never found funny. I know a lot did. Mickey Flanagan for me. I love him!

I couldn't stand him years ago. I thought he was offensive for the sake of it and just out to say the most shocking things he could but I actually liked some of his recent stuff like when he travelled around Russia.

How many women does it take to change a lightbulb?

One, you sexist arsehole!

A man can only take so much nagging before he gets up and changes it for her

Some people have said the suitability of certain jokes is audience appropriate. The trouble is in the modern age any joke for the ears of a specific audience can find its self being board cast outside of that audience and landing the person in hot water. There is a general lack of consideration for nuance these days. People need to be so careful whatever their intent (even if just mocking the bigotry of a joke) of the mob. The Mob and the keyboard warriors don't care about nuance, they don't care about intent, all they care about is having their pound of flesh regardless of who it is or what there intent is.
