Don’t do it yourself! I tried once and got in a right mess. My advice would be go to a salon. But I’m a bit of a wuss to be fair.

Manchester (she/her)

Take ibuprofen first, and let it kick in.

The Facility

Have some baby oil to hand. It's really good for getting wax off skin.

Omg thanks girls... the things I do when bored. It says a light dusting of baby powder can reduce wax sticking to the skin !!!

On a mooch

I’d never do it myself, salon only for me, it needs a very quick sharp tug and personally that not something I can do myself

I use the veet hair removal cream, it's okay. I want to try waxing but like you I'm a lil self conscious about it and massively scared of the pain!

I tried a home one: crap.

I went to a Nuffield hospital. Their system is way more effective.

Salons are cheaper per session but you’ll need loads more sessions. All you need is dark hair and pale skin for the best result. It does work on less dark but blonde it won’t do.

As long as you’re freshly showered, the waxers won’t even bat an eyelid at your bits. Veet and shaving just don’t last - you’ll be glad you’ve braved it. It all feels so much cleaner and softer.

Make sure the hairs aren’t too long or it’ll hurt like hell. So you may need a little trim first with scissors.

Be distracted by their conversation. I find that trying to keep it going stops me from being a total wuss about the whole thing. I try to show as little change in my facial expression as possible.

And, at the end, have a quick feel around. Some are great but, if they miss a bit, you’ll be shaving that for the next 4 weeks.

Hot wax or cold strips? I use hot wax

Occasionally burn myself lol

I use a butter knife to apply it... Gives a nice scrape on the skin and does it nice and thin...

You need to have a good action to rip it off... Pull skin taunt, deep beath, 1, 2, rip... The microwave one is water dissolvable

Once made the mistake in my 20s or 30s of getting cold strips...holy crap.. That is a level above. Have patches on my legs that never recovered lol
