I'm taking my 18 yr old on the 5 hour drive to Leeds tomorrow to start uni.. I'm dreading it! I booked a Travelodge, because I need a break before the return drive. I think I'll spend the night crying into my pillow

Is anyone else dealing with their kid leaving the nest??

Yes, our son headed to uni last week and we took him some bits we couldn't fit in today. He's not gone far, but it's really weird not having him around the house and I didn't like leaving today (I wasn't so bad last week).

Good luck to her! And you will be fine! Stay over, a takeaway and a bottle of wine

My son went to University in Dundee, we live 6 hours south of

I loved the roadtrip though, he's finished last year and is now based in Edinburgh, an hour closer at least

Enjoy!

Don’t worry as they will be back.

Scary time for them to start out on their own in the big world but it’s a right of passage and part of growing up.

We took our 19yr old daughter to Chichester four weeks ago and our 21yr to Orleans three weeks ago so feel your pain.

Drive safe

Be strong

Have a social tonight!!!!

Thanks

We know as it’s her second year and the college is extremely excellent with her and her problems.

Lovely town which also helps.

My son went to University in Florida for three years and my daughter had a year in Madrid. Luckily my other son is only going to Sheffield next Saturday.

So that's it...he's unpacking his stuff, getting to know his new room mates & couldn't shoo me away quick enough. I'm now sulking in a crappy Travelodge until the 5 hr drive home tomorrow morning

You must be relieved he is so happy. Better than him crying and not wanting to stay. I hope you have a relaxing evening.

Remember there is Pandora's near by if you don't want to be alone.

I think its good he wanted to settle in meet people rather than cling to you. It's hard, but my son has equally just bounced off and is getting on fine. Raising an independent child is a good thing!

I agree it doesn't, but I reckon it bodes well for the future for the young person, and that's our job as parents, eh? To raise a decent adult to release into the world to flourish independently. Nice job mama

Durham

It really pulls on the heartstrings doesn't it.

Our eldest moved to live in a city to chase his dreams. I cried my heart out all the way home. It didn't help that his landlady hugged me and said "she would look after him". I felt that was my job and that I was totally letting him go. Of course, in reality I wasn't, I was allowing him to grow up.

Apparently, as someone once told me, us parents have done our job well if we have given them the confidence to grow up, be independent and to venture to pastures new.
