ok, so everyone is prepared to lambast the government for putting forward ideas for benefit reform, so what would YOU suggest as a workable alternative?

we all have to agree that in its current form the system is not viable.

whats your idea?

mine, i still go with the everyone born with 5 years benefit entitlement, and you earn more the longer your work (say 3 months per 12 months working). once its gone, its gone, but at least you are aware of your entitlement before you decide to be lazy.

so, what are your idea?

Oh dear "lazy" lump everyone together - those of us who have enjoyed relative good health and education and employement must stop thinking that everyone who claims benefits is lazy - there are probably more people working and claiming benefits than there are not working

its easy to moan and not contribute, so how about offering suggestions instead, or is that not what you are about??

Two quick ideas :

1) Total benefits cannot exceed 40 hours at Minimum Pay rate.

2) Income tax allowance is raised to £25,000 so most people keep what they earn.

Central

If 25% of tax avoidance was paid in tax, then everyone would get a 2p tax cut in the pound. If much more of the avoided tax was paid, we'd not have any problem.

95% of housing benefit, for example, is paid to people who have jobs, not the unemployed. If people were better paid, then less would need to be paid out by the government. If we stimulated our economy to grow, and had more jobs, better wages for the masses, then we'd have vastly increased tax revenues - subject to businesses and individuals paying their fair share of taxes.

At the moment, the government is using propaganda to stoke anger from the low paid masses against the even poorer amongst us, much like the Nazi propaganda machine etc used to stir up hatred and anger between the people.

This deflects attention away from what the people at the top are really doing. Many government ministers do not pay their fair share of taxes, for example, similarly to the millionaires that bankroll them. This is not exclusive to any one party.

All tax loopholes need to be closed and previous year's tax avoided needs to be claimed back with interest as well as financial penalties. Anything less shows that the government does not really look after its people, and is not there serving them.

There aren't many vacancies, we need to stimulate growth, but I guess that this government doesn't have much of a clue about what to do. I cannot see them being re-elected - not that they won a real election victory anyway. They may become unelectable again, unless they deliver on economic growth.

£25,000 tax allowance for all....Rent cap on Privately rented property (on a regional and micro economy basis) so that Housing Benefit is more managable for governments and councils.

A return of the old 'Enterprise Allowance' scheme of the 1980's, modernised in it's make up, that allows the unemployed to attempt to start a small business with a financial safety net to get them through the first Two years.

That will do me for a start....

this isnt a thread for people to moan about others proposals, unless they suggest other ones.

as i have said before, its VERY easy to say no! but difficult to offer an alternative proposal.

so go right ahead.

The benefit system x the form filling etc it's all a nightmare x i hope none of you experience the nightmare I've had since march x 2 adults and 1 child living on 85 quid a week for food petrol electric etc

Simplify the system x give it to those who need it x god knows how much we've paid in over the years x

When I first applied for any benefit (between jobs) I was told you had to contribute the previous year to qualify, now you do not even have to contribute to qualify and you get more than those who contribute.

The system needs an overhaul so the right people get the right help when needed.
