Whenever I go back, it feels like coming home I cannot wait for the day I step off that plane and know the next time I'll be back on one is out of choice.

Digging deeper into it, like 200 years earlier..... I had relatives that used to live a few streets away from where I moved to in the West Mids. I found that really bizarre. | |||

Now maybe it's because I'm a county bumpkin I was surprised that someone thought I was from a city. I'm actively trying to teach my boys my local dialect. And have a strong sense of identity with my farming and rural roots. Do you have a sense of belonging to a certain area of the country or have a longing for home if you haven't visited there recently? Do you have a sense of local pride? Be it daily or when your football team has its local derby? " Just popping in to say I definitely have the Swansea Jack accent and you have the lovely country bumpkin rural west wales accent. I dare say there may be similarities in our accents but to each other they are different. In answer to your thread I don't actually have a sense of local pride. I would quite happily relocate to north wales and will do that once my youngest finishes school in a few years. I have more of a sense of longing to live in the environment that I love as I enjoy the great outdoors and NW gives me that fix of happiness. Maybe when I have lived there for a few years I may change my mindset on a sense of local pride.... ask me again in 5 -10 years

I've made my home 200 miles from where I was born and have no intention or desire to go back. Aside from that I cannot stand any form of nationalism, I feel pride in things I have personally achieved, I feel proud for things that those who I love have achieved, I feel nothing extra for the achievements of strangers simply because they were born in a similar location to me. Neither people nor places are special to me based on the accident of their geographical birth place, who they are as people or the beauty of the place is the only really relevant factor to me. I understand national or local pride at an intellectual level and can see how it has been a useful trait evolutionary speaking but it has no emotional appeal to me. In fact, totally the opposite, I tend to view love of one's place of birth as the socially acceptable end of a continuum that stretches through to outright nationalism and racism - as an English man in Wales that line gets very blurry on occasion - but of course it is all 'just banter' That said, I do like where I live, I have the Gower and Beacons close by and (more importantly) my friends. These are the things that make it special for me. | |||

"Oh ffs, I've only watched twin town so I'm not exactly an expert on Swansea! I'm from Whitley, which is essentially the roughest part of a town called Reading, just west of London. My parents weren't well off at all. Reading is definitely where I belong and I have great memories of the place and I apparently sound like Ricky Gervais who is also from Whitley, although I dispute this and I'm gonna put my send vag video back up so you can hear and judge for yourselves. Sadly if I wanted a house like mine in Reading it would be the best part of 750k, so I'm happy slumming it in Trowvegas where nothing ever happens and I don't need to lock my front door here when I go out.
