Absolutely, music LOUD! Phone off no-one can get to you and lose yourself in the moment, love a nice long drive.

I used to finish work about 6pm in Glasgow go eat dinner and then drive through the night home to Brighton with a couple of cans of red bull and Dire Straits on the CD player, one pee stop and about 8 hours later home to bed! Awesome

No choice - clocked up nearly 40k miles last year - but have the joys of 'car-reoke' to keep me amused! Plus flirting with other drivers in traffic jams!

And travelling with work has allowed me to meet a lot of very nice people - for both fun and random coffee socials - so for me - the miles are well worth it!

Opens up all sorts of opportunities to meet people who live far away from home!

I have done roughly 100k a year for the past 12 years, up & down to airports. Neither hate it or love it. When it all goes tits up, would be good to be a Buddhist, so you can get out of the car, sit on the roof, cross your legs and go..... OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM .......

Actually thre's something rather romantic about driving on the Northern stretches of the M6 between about 1am and 5am (eg when I'm on my way home form a Manchester club). Watching the dawn come up over the Pennines is entrancing.

As a long time truck driver I do hope that was an effort at humour Wishy....

I have been lucky enough to have driven trucks all over the Continent and even reached Asia (just) and still enjoy it. Done the high flying (literally) 'important' 'expense account' jobs and it nearly killed me but now I am back trucking I am a happy bunny. I do about 650Kms a shift and get all over the UK. There are some fabulous sites and lovely places here in the UK if you care to go and find them. As the lady above said...Have Music Will Travel....

lol no Wishy i'm not a lorry driver, was just a visit to my mum and brother in the midlands. Sadly the choice of music was nursery rhymes and audio kids stories to amuse little one.

Long drives are fine if i'm looking forward to arriving and the clock isn't on the journey. Used to travel the length and breath of the country, not much fun when I had to do school runs as well, getting from a to b was a nightmare...

I normally do around 2500 miles a week or 130000 a year with my job. Think the record in one day probably stands at around 1300 miles on a 20 hour day, and even to do over 1000 a day is fairly regular as I drive all areas, from Wick to Truro.

Fortunately I tend to drive fast cars so I can hammer the time down by massive amounts most days, especially on nice roads such as the m74, m62 (Leeds to Hull, the other half is dogshit and always will be), m6 north of blackpool, m5 into the southwest, etc.

I do have phone calls flooding in while on the road, but other than that I hop between mp3 and radio 2. Radio 1 on the evenings when the cheese goes off and the decent basslines come on. It seems to cut the hours on the road psychologically in half.

And I find my job extremely advantageous for fab as the distance I can travel for a meet is around 500 miles...

West Mids Safari, Warwick (not the castle) spent the day around the town, St Nicholas's park feeding ducks, swans etc, went to Saxon Mills (water mill) and various play parks around Rugby which she was amused with for hours at a time. They were so much bigger than our towns tiny ones

Warwick is a gorgeous town btw,, love all the Tudor buildings

I am quite amazed you felt it was OK to put that in writing.

Remind me to be somewhere else when you are endangering other road users like me when you are:

Hammering down public roads in fast cars.

Overtired because you have had no sleep for 20 hours.

And answering all your very important phone calls.

It is bad enough that you do this but just unbelievable that you think it is perfectly OK to brag about it on a public forum.

Sorry if this a tad blunt but I daily see idiots like you making our roads more dangerous for people like me.

I do believe in some respects I've been misunderstood. For one, regarding phone calls, which are part and parcel of my job (if I was uncontactable I would not be performing said job role efficiently at all)I take all calls using bluetooth, which is quite legal and indeed acceptable. I have a mortgage to pay so to be fair when weighing up whether someone gets offended like you clearly do at my quite legally using a bluetooth device whilst driving I couldn't give two shits if I'm honest.

I also don't constantly hammer cars for all they are worth and take other road users into account when considering my speed. On the m74 at half four in the morning for example I am often the only car within sight, meaning within a couple of miles. I can understand completely however if you wish to do the entire journey at 65 mph in a car and don't begrudge you that.

As for my being tired, this is often true, however I am quite often working in tandem with other drivers where we can split the driving between us. I didn't mention this in my previous post so with respect to this post at least you can be forgiven for a good rant.

Finally, at no stage did I brag about anything. The circumstances of my job are what they are, as is my musical taste. The fact I can meet in wider areas is a bonus, but again down to my job, not any trait I possess positive or otherwise.

Just thought I'd clear that lot up as I know all to well how easy it can be at times to jump to conclusions and fire off accordingly.

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

A couple of years ago I was driving 60-80 miles a day as well as field work. Not much by normal standards I`ll agree but bear in mind this was in a tractor travelling at 20 mph through seaside towns and fast A roads during the hight of summer plus all of the added pressures of driving in schools and playing fields with all the dangers that entails. Not doing the distance so much now but I have an increasing urban workload which I find quite taxing. "Slightly" bumpy roads around housing estates are a nightmare when all the suspension you have is in the seat, parked cars outside of schools mean if you`re as much as five minutes late getting to a site, lengthy waits for access become the norm. If I have to go back to cover my old 80 mile hikes it seems like I`m on holiday!
