The lady above who had a waitress call her luv and her male companion sir would grate only because it seems very sexist. I guess for me it isn't the words but where and how they're said. Anything that comes across as condescending or a put down is rude but the same names can be used by another and be perfectly fine.

Honestly don’t mind any. As far as I’m concerned it’s a term of endearment so if someone’s using it on me then it will be taken in an endearing sense. Now I use a few and if someone says they don’t like one I will then endeavour to not use it. Aside from that it’s just words, far more things that are worth getting irritated by in my eyes.

Honestly I used to always say ‘babe’ ironically but I ended up using it so often that it actually just became a genuine term of endearment that I’d use.

I think you’re either into it or not. If I was seeing someone properly I’d definitely use it if the other person was keen, but I can totally understand why someone would be put off by it if it’s just being said by a total random.
