"Well after being in lockdown for months the kids are finally back to school. With half term in a few weeks. We’ve now been informed that there is a teacher”training “ day on the Monday after the full weeks break ... what an utter disgrace ... views please ???? " Not sure it's a disgrace... Teachers always need training and always have had a few additional days... Training days. Right now more than ever, I'd have thought they need training days. Their world has probably changed more in the last 6 months than in the previous 20 years. I'm surprised they won't need more training days. To be honest.

" I get where you’re coming from, but on the other side of the coin - these teachers and teaching staff are dealing with an unprecedented situation that there are probably no guidelines or rules to dictate how they should be managing the school. I’d be frustrated if it was our school, but also it makes sense, a few weeks in, to have a training day, let everyone get their heads together and go over the new rules and processes to make sure that everyone knows what they should be doing!

I think the impact on kids being off for 2 weeks at a time because of an outbreak at the school or someone in our family of 5 has a cough is going to be huge, could potentially miss a lot of school!

" Why should they do training during non contracted hours?

"Is this swingers chat? Schools have 5 term time training days a year by law. Yes our training needs are massive right now- we can see what’s coming even if you can’t, the fact we are getting ready should reassure you. "

"I get the point. Why couldn’t they do the training whilst the school was pupil free. I accept it’s not right they give up holiday days for it. After all we wouldn’t. I just think that it’s only right they take a day (or more) to discuss what’s working and what needs changing for their new way of working with covid. It may be that some one the procedures they have put in place need reevaluation to ensure everyone is safe. Teacher training day is a generic term. Think of this one as more safety focused for the sake of us all. " Schools have only been pupil free during the holiday. During lock down key workers children were being taught.

"As someone who has worked in education for many years this post makes me sad. No other profession would have to do training on their time off/even have it suggested and I don't see why it's expected of teachers. Training can include a multitude of things; it may be there is a pupil with medical needs and the training is to support this and keep them safe in school. It could be mandatory safeguarding or an update on guidelines imposed on schools which all staff legally have to be informed of. I know for definite it's not a day off for teachers. 98% of teachers would rather be teaching, the training will often lead to more work to be done. Please be kind to your children's teachers as they are working in an unprecedented new and scary environment. " I wholeheartedly agree. Teachers seem to be the new whipping boy. People are willing to entrust the most precious thing in their life to teachers but treat them as work shy and lazy.

X" Sorry to hear that. The threats from entitled parents who can't be bothered to contribute to their child's education, inability to understand that teachers are educators not child minders and basic rudeness are some reasons that friends of mine have quit education. They're leaving further Ed in droves too. Once a pupil reaches 16 they copy their parents attitude. The parents and kids who get it are fortunately still in the majority though, just

"Teacher training days are important if you want the people teaching your kids to use the most up to date and research led techniques. They have 5 a year, they aren't days off for teachers. I'm not sure how any of this is a disgrace, and you've been given several weeks notice. Would you prefer your child's teachers to be untrained, perhaps?" Exactly. Couldn’t agree more It happens every year, not sure what the fuss is about.

I think teachers generally get a lot of respect and support and the lockdown learners have recognised how hard a job it can be. There's always some who want to have a dig at others but I think in teachers case its mostly down to a lack of understanding about what's involved in the job.

"Its a myth that teachers have 6 weeks off at Summer, most are in school every day or working from home. And most teachers I know work at home everyday after school and weekends. And they have all been in during lockdown" Do you think for those who had to teach kids at home for 3 months in lockdown, there is a better appreciation of what teachers do and how challenging it can be at times?

The Friday of half term ??? " The Friday which is their day off? It's parents like you which meant I left education. The parents and people who want more and more and don't realise it's humans doing the job. Humans carrying the emotional burden of all the children in their class. Humans who often work 7-7 minimum to ensure your children have everything. Filling the gaps in the budget so they can give children the best lessons. Facing constant scrutiny to ensure your children have the best lessons and generally being absolute superheroes and dealing with shit. All teachers will attend training, the ones who don't may work part time or fulfil a TA role so they're not contracted to those days. I would never ever comment on how others do their jobs yet everyone is an expert teacher. I know ATM they're putting on brave faces and providing normality for your children. Doing everything to soothe their worries while adding to their own. It costs nothing for you to show them a little bit of respect and be proud of the fact your children's school wants to provide up to date training. Also all dates will have been published a year ago, just because you didn't bother to read them.
