Back in the day you might have created a mixtape for that someone you liked. Now you might make a playlist and share it with them.

Have you ever made a Spotify (other music streaming services are available) playlist, had one made for you or would like to recieve/make one?t

It was easier back then, the fast forward button was a pain in the dick and more than like when you gave a mix tape to a girl she listened to it all. Now they can skip at will with the touch of a button

I still call my playlists on YouTube 'mixtape"

Back in the late 80’s a guy I’d befriended in school became a bit of ‘celeb’ DJ on the northern club circuits; he was cool as fuck but still the same dude that stopped me getting bullied in school; anyways, he’d spent his life savings on this double tape deck with sensor tech that I’m sure someone will remember the name of; it used to place markers at the start of each track and you could fast forward and fast reverse to each track on the tape; it would even auto flip sides without removing the tape!

He recorded mix tapes and got paid a wedge pressing forward and reverse all night long; and a queue of very pleasant young ladies wanting to choose the next track! Those were the days!!

My kids were all born in the 90’s and 00’s but they all say recording is “taping” because of their old man......happy days

I might still have some of those mix tapes in a cupboard I guess this makes sense of my hobby of making Spotify playlists around one song I might hear somewhere

And yes I'd love to have someone make a playlist for me, I think it would be a very thoughtful and personal thing to do

I still make myself what are effectively mix tapes for the car, albeit they're now MP3 tracks on a CD

And that's as up to date as I want to get, as I am unashamedly an analogue man in a digital age. I mean, I still use minidiscs, for fuck's sake!

I had a couple of minidisc players then swapped over to a MP3 player and sold them off with the minidiscs.

Yes I love soul and rare groove and acid house I have a site called esound get the music I need to get on vinyl but luckily my old pirate radio station CENTREFORCE has started playing again

Now that is a level of consistency that is impressive

But this Spotify malarkey is tooodern for me, as I don't understand it. That said, I've not really tried. But I'd rather have a CD in my hand, as it's both something tangible to physically hold in my hand and mine forever

I've added to the playlist over the years but the core of it is still the same as when I first recorded the songs onto a tape.

I still have CDs of albums I never not want to have but as I don't really follow music anymore I quite like the serendipity of just stumbling over something on Spotify. And the immediateness of hearing something I like on TV/film/radio etc. and knowing I can play it straight away.
