some of the most recent world changing events happened and what ones stand out for you the most.

Personally the ones that stand out for me are.

Diana's death- I was at my sisters and woke up to my sisters Foster mum crying saying Diana's dead.

911- I was at home watching diagnose murder with my mum when there was a news flash, I thought it was a film to begin with.

2004 boxing day tsunami- I was at a friends house and were all just glued to the TV.

Berlin Wall falling/collapse of Soviet Union 1988-1991 - this was probably my most defining event because the USSR had been such a constant prescence when growing up that I couldn't imagine it would never not be there.

Tianeman Square 1989 - just got home from watching the remake of 'The Blob' at the cinema and my parents had the news on.

9/11 - at home unemployed

COVID-19 2020 - living it

Not so recent, 8th December 1980, John Lennon assassinated, I was 7 and at home watching TV with my mother, I wrote a note and stuck it on the kitchen door for my father to see when he got home from work as he was a Beatles fan.

9/11 - Woke up after working nights and put the TV on and watched it unfold.

Princess Diana - At a friends house after helping them move in.

Chester Bennington - Here on the Fab forums & I found out when somebody authored a thread announcing it.

I was in hospital in 1990 when the first gulf war started with operation desert storm to remove Saddam Hussein's Iraq forces from Kuwait and remember staying up all night to watch it on the news.

Very true, Events like the Lockerbie plane crash, 7/7 London bombings, Grenfell Tower fire, Bradford city stadium fire, I had to think of major events to remember them. But without thinking I can recall 9/11 & the deaths of Chester Bennington, Leonard Nimoy & Terry Pratchett.

I was at a suppliers in the USA and we were due to fly up or Kodiak Alaska to do some product and material training for the navy seals, we were literally at the airport and got told to go back to the office as all those we were due to see were leaving on a plane to sort out a little trouble in the Middle East..... not often you get a heads up like that

1982, UK & Argentina at war over the Falkland Islands, I was 9 at the time & remember it being pretty scary.

I was at work when the 7/7 bombings came on the radio. I went into shock as I’d dropped my daughter at school earlier as they were going into London for a school trip.

As the report was on the radio my phone rang it was my daughters teacher telling me they were safe and would be back early so could we arrange to pick her up early.

9/11 I was just finishing work went into the break room and it came up as a news flash on the tv.

2004 Boxing Day Tsunami I was in India at a beach party in Goa.

The sea came in right up to the beach shacks and flooded everything and the sun was a strange blood orange.

We knew nothing about the Tsunami and carried on partying until we got the news later that day

Diana's Death 1991 I was in St Lucia seeing family - I arrived back to the UK to a whole country in mourning.

2020 Covid 19 - moved house, lost my job, stayed at home.

Two more come to mind that stick out for me.

1986 US bombing raid on Tripoli,Libya: My dad worked in Libya in the '70s and we'd been to Tripoli for school summer holidays.

1980 Iranian Embassy siege in London: I remember watching the SAS storm the embassy on the news.

Probably most stuff from the 80's as I would consider them my formative years and when I started paying attention to the news.

Just finished Open water swimming near Southport when I heard about the tsunami. Perhaps that's why it sticks in my mind.

At home when a running God broke the two hour marathon time. I hardly follow anything else and the above posts haven't touched me.

So many events in this year - Tiananmen Square and the fall of the Berlin Wall being just 2. This was the year I finished school.

Berlin Wall coming down - I was in the cub scouts and remember it being in the news at the time.

Gulf war 1991 - my uncle was serving out there with the army at the time and remember my aunty watching the news every night to see what was happening.

Diana's death - I was 15 then and camping out on the farm with some mates, we had a little battery powered radio to listen to and it was announced on there.

The millennium- I was 17 and at a lock in at the local night club.

9/11 - I was 19 and at work in my first job after leaving college that summer but didn't find out about it till I got home.

Diana's dead i was in Switzerland leaving the dream of a teenager

911 i was in Portugal living with my brother and a friend , getting ready surf boards and wetsuits for a surfing lovely day that never happened

The only one that is stuck in my mind is Manchester Arena bombing. I was on a flight from Dominican republic all night and it was the first thing we found out after we landed in Manchester the morning after it happened. It was so terrifying.

Princess Diana, we were at a friend's house playing.

Turn of millenium, at my grandma's house drinking shloer, expecting the clocks to blow up. Had been in a car crash earlier that evening too.

911- waiting for the school bus and the maths teachers rolled out a TV

Olympics opening ceremony, sat with my bridesmaids night before my wedding, got excited when saw Frank Turner on screen.

1996 Manchester bombing stands out for me (mainly because I was in Manchester). Not initially understanding it was more than the normal evacuation for false alarms and threats, not being able to get the train and having to get a bus with no idea of how I'd manage to get home, everyone just looking at each other in blank numbness.

9/11 I was in work. We had quite a few people over from our site in Chicago and not the greatest internet in the world, and I remember the sheer panic of everyone just trying to contact their families when phone systems were overloaded. I vividly remember the silent shock of watching the collapse; none of us really believed they would fall.

Lehman Bros bankruptcy on September 15, 2008, followed by the fed takeover of AIG on the 16th, then the crash of the 17th/18th. I was off work that week and spent it glued to news feed livestreams, and I just remember the dawning horror that the system was grinding to a halt and there was no viable alternative to switch to. The markets were too powerful to be stopped and we were teetering on the edge of a chasm.

The good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland 1998, I was staying in the Stormont Hotel, opposite Stormont Castle when it was signed. Had a few drinks with some people who witnessed the signing afterwards.

Manchester arena bombing, I worked in the offices next to the arena. So I walked through that area for quite a few years. Also know one person affected that day

Another one that stands out for me is the Hillsborough disaster.

It was my 7th birthday and I remember we had it on and I said to my mum who was in the kitchen "look at those naughty people on the pitch" she came to look and I will never forget the look on her face.

She said "they are not naughty, i think something terrible has happened "

13 March 1996 Dunblane shooting - I was at work in a nursery heavily pregnant with my first child. I was on my break and the news filtered through the radio. I was in total disbelief that this could happen and it felt very close to home because of my job. I went back from my break and hugged the children in my care a little tighter

31st August 1997 Princess Diana’s death- woke up with contractions With my second child in the very early hours of the morning and went downstairs to put TV on to hopefully pass some time before I needed to go to hospital. It was all very surreal watching the tragic event unfold and I remember sitting crying. I spent the next 35 hours in hospital, the weather was awful and every TV station was covering Diana’s death. Everything felt so solemn and gloomy.

The day after Diana’s death I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whose middle name is Diana

Diana - it was a Sunday morning and my dad came to wake me up to go to play rugby. He came in and told me to get up and then added "Princess Diana is dead"

9/11 - I'd literally just walked in through the door from school, my dad was working from home but he was sat in front of the TV, which was odd. As I looked up the second plane hit.

7/7 - was working and heard it in the radio, my dad was working up in/near London that day and we couldn't get hold of him as they'd switched the phone networks off for a bit.

Diana's death - at home on holiday between jobs - moved to the new job destination on the day of her funeral

My toddler son woke up early so I took him downstairs to play in the conservatory so we didn't disturb my husband. I turned on the radio to listen to the six o'clock news. The national anthem was playing so I assumed the Queen Mother had died. I was really shocked when the announcer said it was Diana. Then my son pulled the cable of the radio and it fell on to the tiled floor and smashed.

1997, woke up to the news in Germany whilst serving in HM Forces.

9/11 serving in Saudi Arabia, somewhere near Riyadh.

7/7 attacks, serving in Cyprus.
