I was off school poorly, I remember my mum shouting up to me to come downstairs and we sat and watched the news, both gawping at the TV in disbelief as the second plane hit.

I'll never forget it.

Getting ready to go out to work I believe.. tv was on in the background and it was a news channel. I had to sit down and keep watching it until it winked in..Is this even true? It seemed so surreal.

I was at home ill, fallen asleep watching tv and woke thinking I was watching a movie, until it started repeating itself and realised I wasn’t.

It was a long 24 hours waiting to hear from someone I’d fallen out with, when the pentagon was hit

I studied in NYC in the summer of 2002 and the effects of what happened on businesses And life in general there was truly shocking

Sat watching Neighbours on couch as was on summer break from Uni. Remember calling my Mum at work to tell her to get to radio as something massive was happening.

Thankfully didn’t know anyone involved but the event is tied to a lot of negative memories that year and shaped my life massively. Absolutely horrific and pointless.

I saw it on TV at home, heavily pregnant with twins. When the second plane crashed at first I thought it was a replay of the first crash. My brother kept ringing me from the City (where he worked) for updates as all their computers had crashed.

I can tell you exactly where I was... I was on a Saturday night red eye flying back from New York to Newcastle, on the Monday was my first day in my new job working for American Express, and Tuesday was 9/11....

So at 2pm we get a call for anyone who was American to go into an office.... just told there had been an incident to give us a heads up.... 2.45 pm they turn off all incoming phones and we have a meeting where we get told exactly what was happening and there give people the option of going home,.... at 3.30pm they send everyone home!

I remember getting a load of phone calls and trying to make a load of calls... thankfully I didn’t lose any relatives although a lot did work very close.... I did lose 6 very good friends who I still miss to this day.... and I always take 9/11 as a day off work! I’ll go to a church later a light a candle

Lads holiday in Tenerife, walking past a bar and everyone was silent looking at the TV.

I'll never forget seeing the footage of those planes hitting the towers.

Flew back later that evening and it was a surreal experience, both airports had an atmosphere, never experienced anything like it.

A friend of mine had an apartment pretty much across the street from the towers, the horror story of what he saw when he was allowed back into the apartment to get some essentials is not something to repeat on this site. Suffice to say every window in the block was blown out and there were items in his living room what should not have been there

Truly horrible day, what he saw still haunts him All these years later

I was driving home from work with the radio on, i was in the village next to where i live. I was so shocked and shaken that i had to stop for a while before carrying on to home. I put the tv on when i got in just to see the 2nd plane hit the tower. I phoned work to tell them as one member of staff had a relative on holiday in New York at the time, thankfully they were ok. I then phoned my parents and told them something had happened and they should put the tv on, they just kept waffling and i still have no idea if they put the tv on.

A horrific day for america and the world in general such a tragic loss of life, the terrorists achieved what they wanted that day It was a eye opener for me knowing such people existed and most certainly probabily still do.

I went to collect a visitor for a meeting from reception. We had just that week put a large flat panel TV in reception. As I shook his hand I looked up and saw the replay of the second plane fly into the tower and the tower collapse. I thought it was an episode of quincy or something at first till I realised. It was a chilling moment.

My parents were watching West Wing, no fucking joke. Bulletin across the screen then it switched to the news.

My parents woke me up to tell me. I remember but it didn't really register.

I remember September 12 more clearly. The sense of doom. A classmate stranded in New York.

I was doing some tests for a apprenticeship and the tutor came in and said a plane had hit the towers and one had collapsed. It was beyond all comprehension at the time. The film 102 minutes that changed America is well worth a watch

i had arrived if florida the day before, i was working for a race team, we had rented part of a local workshop, and i was just sorting bits out while my crew went back to the airport to collect the race car, i was watching the tv out of the courner of my eye, and thought oh die hard is on, then i realised it was the news, we had ment to be on one of those flights, but in racing plans change quickly, so we werent,anyway, the race we had been payed , or were going to be paid for was duue the next week, it was cancelled, it bankrupted the team, and i spent the next few years living there, as there werent funds to fly the car home, it all ended well for me, i ended up with loads of work.

but i still know people who lost loved ones that day, and it will always be in my memory,it later turned out that one of the hijakers lived next to me in daytona , it was a scary time and i still think about it, so i was affected, but in a very minor way, apart from being seperated from my family, but the odd thing was that within hours of the event, all the us media stopped talking about it, i got more information from phone calls home than us news, infact my american friends used to ask me what was going on, on guy i knew well said, its ok we expect our gov to hide things and lie, some things never change.

it was a life changing experiance thats for sure.

i still light a candle every year for the lost.

Was linking in Massachusetts about 3 hours outside of NYC.

Woke up and my chronically d*unk roommate was watching tele. Told me the funniest thing was happening. Watched as the second plane hit and then the buildings began to tumble - I get chills still thinking about it

Had to work the lunch shift at a nice bar - everyone just gathered around the TV, silent except for the ones frantically trying to get ahold of their families in the city.

I was only 19 and I'd just started working on a farm having completed college a couple of months prior. I didn't know anything about through the day till I was on my way home and called in to see my grandma and saw it playing out on the TV, I thought I was watching the trailer for a new film at first and it took me a minute to clock it was actually happening.

Perhaps I was just young and naive but up until then I'd thought the world as being relatively calm and peaceful before that day, then the US war machine mobilised for revenge and nearly two decades of conflict across the middle east and numerous terror attacks have followed it. The world certainly changed that day.

I saw the second plane flying in at low ground, and thought "shit, going to hit", then bang. That image will always be burned in my brain. R.I.P to every person that died

I was only 8, don’t remember much but I do remember it being breaking news on the TV and everyone in the room was just so shocked. Obviously when you’re that young you don’t really realise the severity or understand it completely.
