Does a watched thread never get posts?

You put up a new thread. It's your best yet. Everyone will go wild for it. You watch and wait and nothing happens. Quickly it drops down the page. Do you keep watching ready to spring into action to deliver witty replies to the comments left? Or do you go away to do something more interesting? What if no one replies at all? And what if when you come back it's on page 2? To bump or not bump?

Where's the humanity?

Delightful Bliss

I post it and then revisit it to see if Ineed to reply to anyone, no posts means no replys, let it drift into page 2

I usually find the ones I watch get fuck all replies, then when I go do something else the threads closed when I come back.

Soda law.

It's hard not to notice that they are still at 0 when you are replying to other threads. Then when you see the zero change it's a sigh of relief and then a little smile for joy before checking to see who said what.

That being said, I'm a shit OP for a multitude of reasons lol

The rare time I post a thread I usually potter around and do a few bits. I reply to some comments where they aren't closed/interest me. I hate bumping my own threads, it feels quite needy but that's my weird opinion. I bump threads of other people buuut only if a) I'm interested in it and b) if I think I'll get a reply. A slight irksome moment is when I post on a thread, others post after and everyone but me gets a reply.

I’ve only posted a couple of threads and found it anxiety inducing with the watching and the answering. That sinking feeling as I watch it slip down page one punctuated with moments of elation when someone comments.

Occasionally I feel bad for someone who has posted what I feel is a decent thread which is seemingly going unnoticed so will post on that.

I'll bump a decent thread with no or few comments late at night when less people are posting. Then it usually gets to stay around until people start coming on in the morning and gains traction.

Seriously though it depends on the replies and response. Usually the crap ones I post asking about how people view themselves get more replies because ppl love to talk about themselves. When I post something I think is genius and ask people to think in any detail, the thread often sinks like a stone.....

I know the feeling ....

Just look at my very excellent post on the John Cage organ work “As slow as possible”... very thought provoking ... and it flopped

( I know you were kind enough to contribute - so you are ok )

I think bumping is fine. It's not like you're forcing anyone to join in is it. I bumped one on "rate Nippy's ballbag" the other night to show Yasmeen the level of abuse I get from her on the forum and when I reread it I was in tears with laughter

Nah, some of the ones where you ask people to THINK (caps for you) do well. I do think the time/posters online affect it a lot. I don't know if threads asking about how someone views themselves do well because people love to talk about themselves, I think it's more nuanced than that. Those threads are easy to join in on, it's fascinating to read others opinions and yeah, it's nice to talk about yourself.

The main thing I have learned about threads is don't make it about jazz. They less popular than a profile with a gallery of eight knob photos in a dirty bathroom.

This Meli is a prime example of how brilliant you are with words, how jealous I am of that skill and how ppl will interpret two different people saying the same thing very differently!

I THINK you basically just said what I meant with "people love to talk about themselves", but in a polite, thougtful positive and friendly way. The way I said it would have probably come accross as cunty although I still meant the same thing as you, yes it's nuanced everything is nuanced imho that's how my brain thinks anyway, I just didn't explain that in detail. Thread performance to me is a mixture of familiarity, a little personality and authenticity and yes you're right about timing it and knowing a few of your regular repliers are online to give it some oxygen. I think it's easy to make a thread that goes to 175 in an hour - I did one in 46 mins once just asking ppl what car they drive, but I didn't feel proud, or learn a great deal from it or enjoy making it. When I do a "genius" one I guess ppl just think "oh he's off again asking too many questions" or they worry that by giving an opinion they would encourage others to judge them or that their opinion may fall differently from there friends and create a dispute. I'm proud of my "genius" though and I enjoy it!
