Who’s seen it?

Massive Nolan fan, not his best work but far from his worst, if you’re here and haven’t seen the film I would be aware of spoilers,

Amazing film that needs to be seen more than once but lacks a little heart....

We saw it last night. Hannah enjoyed it but didn't know what was going on and wants to see it again. I (Luke) am struggling to think of any redeeming features. I thought it was crap.

It was an interesting idea, but it didn't make much sense. I didn't know who the characters were. They were two-dimensional and I didn't care about any of them or what they were doing. I didn't find any any tension in it.

The sound was awful. There were several conversations with people wearing masks, in loads of background noise, and an annoying score, so I couldn't hear what they were saying let alone understand what they were wibbling on about.

I love complex films where I have to watch them a few times to really understand everything, but I felt that if I really got to the bottom of this one I just wouldn't give a shit.

In short: Interesting idea very badly executed and I won't be sorry not to see it again. Worse than Inception, and I didn't like that one either.

Nolan always has to be too clever for his own good, he seems to make films complexed on purpose for some reason,if you don't understand them it's not that you're stupid, it's because there to complexes for their own good

I entirely agree with you. This film seemed to me to be complex for the sake of it, rather than it helped what little story there was.

He put in scenes where people interacted with another version of themselves (trying to avoid spoilers) and a scene two army platoons, one working in reverse. It was all because he had the idea and wanted it in there rather than because it made for a good film.

I feel as if Nolan thinks complexity is the same as quality and I totally disagree. A quality film can be complex (eg LA Confidential, which I love) but complexity isn't automatically quality.

I thought it was a good concept poorly executed.

Somebody asked for people's opinions. If you don't want to know what people thought then don't read the thread. Besides, you gave your opinion that it's not rubbish.

Yea if you didn’t like inception then this is really not for you, this is him all over, I think that there is a clear story within it and an amazing visual style, I don’t think we need to understand everything to enjoy a film experience, but it invites repeat viewing and conversation, he’s an ‘event’ director, not someone that takes passengers well, however as the film says ‘don’t try to understand it, feel it’ as a Nolan fan I loved it, but I can also appreciate if you don’t like his style, you won’t enjoy this.

As for the sound, I don’t believe you have to hear everything, if you look at Dunkirk or Interstellar, or even the Dark knight rises, the dialogue isn’t always heard and definitely not heard clearly, but if you were a character within the sequence, would you anyway?

The original post warns of spoilers, however if you’ve seen it then I dare say you’re not too bothered about reading any, but I agree, to an extent, if YOU believe the film is rubbish, you would share, however the beauty of opinion is that they will regularly differ
