Are you talking about buying a house with someone or renting a place together?

"Are you talking about buying a house with someone or renting a place together?"

Renting together or moving in to someone's house that is looking to rent out a room

I did at uni. I've had a mix of good and bad experiences depending on the other people. Mostly good as they were friends and fun people but some people are gross or messy. Also some people can be really inconsiderate, noisy and use your stuff. The best one for me was when I was with two other girls who were both pretty clean and we never used each others stuff without asking but were always happy to do so when asked. We had a shared pot of money for household stuff which saved all the "who's turn is it" bullshit too. It can be good and cheap when you're similarly matched but it can be awful when you're not.

I rented a flat for 12months with 2 female friends when i was 23. One was very untidy and one was got mixed up with not nice people so both these issues caused rows. Also one would never pay her share of the bills on time. It was an experience but i would not repeat.

Thank you, I guess it really depends on who you move in with

You never really know someone well until you live with them.

That is very true.

Do people that house share via an agent get vetted at all?

It depends on the agent.

But most reputable ones will do a credit check and want a reference.

About 10 years ago after I sold ma bungalow, me, ma ex and her ex were all living in seperate flats. We all got on well, so I thought it would be cheaper for us to rent a 3 bedroom house together. It started off just fine for the first 18 months or so, but eventually we all decided that we needed our own space, only 1 bathroom, there was an outside loo as well, but who needs to use that in the winter!

To cut a long story short, it was fun while it lasted, but my "student" days are long behind me now, and we all have our own seperate flats again. Peace and harmony prevails once more
