"Some people are fortunate enough to be able to retire earlier than others depending on their circumstances and pensions. " I’m sure you are not alone in having to work until full retirement age. Embrace it, don’t decry it

"Some people are fortunate enough to be able to retire earlier than others depending on their circumstances and pensions. I’m sure you are not alone in having to work until full retirement age. Embrace it, don’t decry it" Work keeps me fit and active so will not complain. Not long ago i was living mortgage free and getting ready to retire at 55 as i had always planned. It was my choice to leave that cosy life and tackle the world solo so i embrace it now as i am so much happier.

"My friends are a mix: still working, retired and semi-retired...that's not what's the problem for me. I'm a sensible person, and in my life I've had two meltdowns: one understandable, the death of my only son the other...turning 40. I'm 60 in a few days and I can feel the "horror" rising. I retired four years and didn’t mind getting my occupational pension but for some reason hitting 60?!! Wtf?!! " It's a big milestone to be sure. I didn't mind it too much. I think 65 and then 70 will be the birthdays that make me stop and think. I try to tell myself that it beats the alternative

"I can't bloody wait to retire! Bring it on " I have worked on and off but I've basically been retired nearly 7 years now. I still can't get used to being able to spend while afternoons just doing whatever I want and staying up late on Sunday night.

"We would love to be able to retire in a few years time and indulge in hobbies and spending time doing the things we don't have time for, such as travelling for starters. Unfortunately we won't be able to afford to for a few years, until we terminate our business, hopefully then we will reap the rewards in a healthy retirement lump sum."

"If I make it to 55 I’m retiring. I will spend my days on the riverbanks and in the fields in the summer and abroad in the winter. Will keep my hand in the buy to let market and that will be it. I have friends who have retired and they all look amazing. It’s like they drop years once work is lifted. " Stepping off the tread mill is a huge relief.

"My dad retired early last October but went back to work for Covid. Suits us all him working part time as he couldn’t cope not working J x" I retired in 2016 but went back to work in November. There's only so many holidays, lunches, shopping trips, playing with the grandchildren you can do before you crave being productive.

"My sister in law is a teacher and a school inspector and she has saved enough to be able to retire and live comfortably when she is 55. If you can afford it then why the heck not! I would if I could! " I I think it depends on your situation. We couldn't wait to stop working because we had so much we wanted to do. We've renovated the house we moved into (we still are , it's never ending), that entailed learning a lot of new skills including concreting, tiling, furniture renovation, upholstery etc. We've redesigned the garden too. I've got an ever growing stack of books I want to read, a load of craft, sewing and embroidery projects waiting, we've got places we want to see and things we want learn. People ask me in quite disparaging times "how do you fill your time?" as if I'm a toddler who needs occupying. I just laugh and tell them I'm living my best life.

"No plans to retire for at least another 20years, work in some capacity keeps you healthy and sharp. There’s nothing I can do in retirement that I can’t do now, we took 2.5 years out once to travel and live in other countries, would rather have adventures when for and active than boring cruises with old sick people " , best not join Saga then
