I LOVE IT

If i could leave my tree up all year around and get away with it i probably would..

Decorations, gift buying, wrapping, giving, the food and drink, the films, the scented candles, time with loved ones..

During lockdown i decorated my magnolia front room with some snazzy ochre and grey design and now im sat here thinking my brightly coloured (pinks, purples, teals, silvers, blues) tree decs wont match. The decs have been a work in progress and something i've added too each year since my daughters been alive (11 years this year)..

Do i re decorate and keep the tree dec scheme.. or close that chapter and do i go whites and silvers??

also.. you a lover or loather??

Not bothered. I usually work nightshift so spend the day alone at home. I find the build up very stressful with all the running about and wrapping presents. Have fond memories of Christmas when i was young or my children were little but now it is just me it is not the same.

Absolutely hate Christmas!

All the build up starting in bloody September is ridiculous, same Christmas songs on repeat for the last 25 years and people buying so much shit they don't need, people getting in to debt for one day! Safe to say I'm not a fan

I’ve always loved Christmas but not been the same since my mum passed.

I tend to change my tree colours when I change my house colours but they do cost me quite a lot to change as I like to have 2 trees, a large real one and then a small one full of Disney decorations

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I've just ordered all the Christmas presents for the santa grotto.... About 4 months later than usual because we didn't know if we would be able to have it this year. Need to get a new lf costume as well as mine is getting a little threadbare now.

So yeah, spirit of Christmas is alive and well in my house. Until the gifts all arrive and I've got about 1000 to wrap. Then my Grinch comes out to play.

Genuinely never ever moaned im skint.. i put money aside and always lived within my means..

I have incredible family, there was one year where i couldnt afford gifts so i simply didnt buy them, but we all put money into food and enjoyed the day with each other. Was incredible.

Oh yeah i have totally witnessed that too.

I really enjoy giving random kind gestures and lockdown has shown the best of my friends and the community i live in with all the random acts of kindness thats gone on around me..

I do not understand why people feel the need to get into such huge debts.. maybe the peer pressure of society, the rising costs of technology, keeping up with the 'jones' mentality.. etc

Sometimes making the agreement to not buy gifts for each other really is the best gift. When i was younger if my mate would buy me something id feel like id have to buy a gift back.. and thats when it becomes expensive.

I buy for my daughter, grandparents, parents and brother. Thats it.

Absolutely Love.... Mrs always loved it, I (MR) used to be a bit of grouch and work but once the kiddies were born I got really into it, I always try to take 2 weeks completely off, buy (or make if I have time) loads of pressies, go on walks/winter wildcamp, swim in a freezing lake, smoke a big Cuban cigar , drink a bottle of whisky, it’s the best holiday ever....

Yeah i had 4 years where Xmas had lost its magic and capatalized on the financial gain from working it.. but then was blessed with a child and all changed for me.

My daughters not believed for a few years now but we have young neighbours and she is so good with their children so magic will always be alive in spirit. My daughters bday is xmas eve so generally doubly special for us as she was my xmas gift

The local groups that popped up to help out people during lockdown were brilliant here. Some are still ongoing, helping people who need it. New friendships.

I did the whole Christmas excess thing one year and it was awful. Far too much wasted food, too much money spent, it just felt crap. Never done it again. Xmas shop now takes 20 minutes. Turkey, potatoes sprouts, pudding, job done. Presents are memories. A voucher for a day trip or an outing. Spending time together. And always something really ridiculous that the person goes "wtf??!!!" when they open it. They still remember the can of beans. They have forgotten the doll/ car.

I am guilty of taking a photo of when Santa has been each year,, but more for a photographic documentary of our social history.. When my daughter is like 80 she can look back (like i do now at really old toys i used to own) and reflect on what trends were of the time.

Much like the Argos Catalogue is now a document of social history. Nothing is to brag, I dont buy tat.. everything i purchase is for a reason.

And thats perfect spirit. We do that too. The community i live in host a huge roast dinner for those who are on their own and for £5 we can buy a pack of cards designed by local school children and each pack pays for someone to attend the dinner thats cooked on the day by an army of local volunteers.

Town also hosts raffles and fund raisers for all kinds of charitys, i'm a huge supporter in local business and community spirit.

Tradition that Elf is the Xmas Eve film..

When my little one was younger, we did a book advent calendar.. 24 Books (sounds more expensive than it was,, book people often did 10 books for £10).. wrap all the books up and she'd pick a new story before bed.

As i have friends with children of all ages, once Xmas was done with we just swapped books with a family so we all ended up with a new stash for the following year. So i would hand those books down.. etc

Hopefully I'll get to see them.

I'm already thinking ahead though! Treating mother and buying her a Kindle as she's doing a ton of reading. And I'll see my bestie and her little girl too.

And I'm treating myself well too. My bestie does Body Shop at Home and scored me a Body Shop advent calendar.

I bought myself my Kindle Paperwhite as an early Christmas present last year. I'm old enough to treat myself at Christmas now.

I might have my eye on some new pencils!

Yeah, practical and thoughtful for me. My mum's been getting through books in two or three days since they moved but obviously they're very limited on space now. So my plan is to link up my mum's kindle with my household so she has access to the 250+ books I already have and set it up with three months of Kindle Unlimited so she can borrow books from there too. Lots and lots of reading material!

Chams or Socials

T loves it. Christmas is their busiest time at work hand-making holly wreaths etc.. he loves a decorated tree etc... I’m from such a split family & fed up of spreading myself too thin having to please everyone. I do love a good roast dinner though!! Although last year we went for a long walk with the dog & are a curry we bought the night before.

"I LOVE IT

I use to, now I'm a bah humbug.

I’m not a lover of Christmas at all and 2020 is likely to be the most lousy Christmas ever

Saying that..... because it was such a RIDICULOUS statement my Christmas decks have been up since April. They do look stunning hanging from an old clothes airer suspended from the ceiling

My grandma is the adult book worm in our family.. she just loves the physical book.. my daughter as you know already is the child book worm haha..

So pre warning ya flower.. give it a month and the xmas posts will be starting on instagram lolll "

Your daughter has amazing taste in books! I'm prepared

I bloody love Christmas. I don't do the fancy schmancy colour-schemed and planned tree decoration - I stuff every tacky 1970s bauble onto it until it's the gaudiest tree in the world.

I don't spend huge amounts of money, but I put huge emotional energy into choosing meaningful gifts for the people I love.

I always take time off work from Christmas eve through to the new year and I revel in seeing all my extended family at the beginning of the break and then taking peaceful, hassle free time for myself when the family all gets a bit much.

My mum and I go out for Christmas dinner, just the two of us, so we don't have the stress of grocery shopping and cooking and cleaning and disposing of leftovers.

It's a gorgeous time when I really feel surrounded by love and goodwill. Just like Roy Wood I wish it could be Christmas every day.

New year can kiss my arse though.

Hate it. Bought gifts and cards for my two best friends and got fuck all in return. No gifts,no cards and corned beef pie n beans for Xmas dinner. I get that it's a happy time for most but I suffer from depression and never felt worse than Xmas last year. Never been the same since losing my mum in 2013 and then my dad in 2018. Took me weeks afterwards to pull myself together.

On a mooch

No set theme. Our tree is decorated with a mixture of baubles/decorations I got given as a child which came with me when I left home; added to over the years by myself and now my lads choice of decorations over the last 12 years, so is a mismass of colours and different materials.... but full of memories; when he leaves home his baubles will go with him.

Nope, the C word cannot be uttered until after my birthday (late November). Our fake tree and decorations are the same ones we bought as 19/20yo students in 2005, plus some bits our kids have made over the years

I'm not fussed it's just another day.

I don't have children or close family so if I don't get an invite somewhere I'll probably ignore it.

I love Christmas and the little traditions we have - from the weekend decorating the tree and hanging this year's paper chains (way to keep me preoccupied during dull calls ) to our seasonal festive drink catch up with some good friends. Threads relating to this topic always makes me think of Babs and she's magical enough in herself.

Tree decoration wise it's heirlooms and little mementos from various trips and family and friends. It looks a bit higgledy-piggedly but I love it.

We dont have a xmas tree as such, we have a wishing tree that stays up all year round. Its a cut branch from an ash. On it we hang thoughts and wishes and memories and lengths of silk...its a lot nicer...and no needles
