how can you be pushed to eat the wrong kind of food?

freewill gone out of fashion?

people know what's good and bad for them,at least they should do..eat the wrong food and you can say I was coerced by the big bad man? bullshit

The bottom line is that while individually we choose what we eat, we are responsible for what we put inside our bodies... the ingredients (50 teaspoons of sugar in a supersize fizzy drink!!!!) and the size of portions are all doing their level best to fool the consumer. It's irreponsible advertising to say the least...

We are what we make of our own eating habits. No foods corporation should be responsible for our fatness.

I believe we ARE responsible for what we eat, and how much of it.... however, when you hear that the adding of Fructose to virtually anything from sweet to savoury, which inhibits the brain's natural hormon telling you that you had enough... It is almost like telling a drug addict to just quit...

I have watched both programs and, to be honest, you will be far better off reading 'Fast Food Nation'......there were a few 'new' vacts, recent decisions by the Department of Health within the last 10 years or so, but most of the 'facts' are still there and there will be far more information. 'Super Size Me'is also good. While you are at it, read 'No Logo's' too (then Plato's 'The Republic' and mail me for a longer reading list............)

I used to be a lot bigger than I am now. I don't blame any body for that except me. No body forced all that junk food down my throat. Granted it does (sometimes) taste nice and gave me a buzz when eating it but it was me who ate it. It's all my fault. Yes it is cheap, quick, easy and readily available but that doesn't mean I had to eat it or that anybody made me fat except me.

I agree with you overall that it is each person's responsibility - however, when addictive chemicals are at work this makes it infinitely harder for people, especially when the food industry has kept quiet about it.

I laugh at how people blame others for what they put in their mouths.

Its like going into Dominos, ordering the biggest pizza and shouting "YOU SHOULDNT SELL ME THIS!"

A lot of people in western society have lost the ability to take responsibility for their own lives.

I don't think.people are actually saying the food is bring forced down their throats lol everyone acknowledges that ultimately it is them who chooses what they eat.

However, we must accept that major food corporations have used tricks to het us hooked on certain foods. Measuring how the brain works and the endorphines produced when people eat certain things etc

You lack any knowldge and speak without any and therefore seek the easy explanation.

Read Pure White and Deadly by John Yudkin released in the mid eighties I think. It was ignored by politicians with good reason.

Educate yourself about the American Food Corporates. Their vast over production of sugar , corn and fat and the mass production of high calorie 'non food' foods that pass as foods in the west.

Educate yourself on how all these substitutes enable the less well off to feed a family badly.

Educate yourself on how our advertising companies and the companies producing goods, join forces to promote junk eating , wrapping it in seductive images and strap lines and giving it a clean healthy image.

Learn the science behind the addiction. Once it's in the liver human beings are changed and crave. They no longer switch off to eating.

Educate yourself on how all of these people are related by blood or marriage or masonic like business bond.

Realise that you are nothing but a commodity that should consume hard and die early.

Then you might get to be a little less ..... what ever it is you are. Pious..... that'll do for now.

For some the realisation comes a little later in life.

They make choices eventually. There's a whole new industry based on their re births.... They have names like ... 'The Gym' - 'The Biggest Loser' , Atkins, Cambridge, Slimmers World, Counsellors , Doctors...

There's more at play than the individual fatty .....

It's a bit like blaming Africans for being Black.

There's a whole culture contributing to obesity. It takes more than a change in individuals to save future generations.

Oh. P.S.

Any individual adult on here who blames anyone else but themselves from this moment forward has no sympathy ...

Stay in the fish n veg aisle in the supermarket.

God knows it's tiny ..... the rest of the shop is full of shit ..... Just do the fish n veg aisle....

To be honest we blame lazy people but advertising and the big companies have to share the blame aswell.

In general we eat healthy and we make sure our kids do aswell so no quick pizza or chicken crap no processed or frozen food for tea in our house, breakfast consists of cereal or toast and a piece of fruit, salad sandwich for lunch drink and another piece of fruit and for our dinner its usually home cook meal, so we get plenty of our 5 aday, Some parents are lazy and cant be bothered to cook properly or make sure their kids eat right, we get the kids involved in our cooking and hopefully this will ingrain in them home cooking value,s and healthy eating.

We tend to treat ourselfs and the children to the odd mac d,s or kfc and our children only get sweets and chocalate at weekends film nights etc etc, due to one of our kids having adhd we had to look into the problems behind fast food junk food and crap processed food, and you wouldnt beieve the amount of e number and rubbish that effects your childs minds, we have noticed a massive difference in our childs behavour since our healthy eating and even school and his learning is great add that to a good night sleep and bang we have a new boy , and the children do look forward and really enjoy their treats now, unlike before when it was the norm,

some have medical problems and some are just lazy.

but i have noticed that as incomes are less and bills increasing people are having to eat cheaper food with all the rubbish thats in it.

im sure a lot of people are unhappy with their looks (and i include myself in that)but we are all humans, equal to the same fair treatment.

and for those who really do try to get the weight off and struggle i wish them well.

Central

When the major food corporations can employ the world's best psychologists, telling them how to manipulate us, the most up to date research into how to formulate food so that it's more chemically addictive it becomes as scandalous as the tobacco industry knowingly suppressing their evidence that products caused cancer. All in the pursuit of profits, at the expense of people who place trust in such businesses and governments to help protect and nurture their health.

It is unrealistic to expect the general public to be nutritional experts, though it is realistic and reasonable to expect multi-million pound corporations to safe guard our health, whilst profiting from us and most definitely not pursuing activities that are borderline or completely pathological, and possibly done more damage than many mass killers and wars.

It doesn't half make me smile when people throw blame round on this company or that one. The person who makes you fat is the one owning the hand that physically shoves more food in your mouth than you need to maintain a healthy diet.

No matter what your condition its a balance thing. If your body burns 2000 cals a day you eat only that amount. If it burns 5000 cals then the same goes. If however you only burn 2000 cals but eat 5000 then you are going to get fat.

Any Idea how many calories are in a big mac? Or a portion of fish and chips? No, because they are not required to tell you, you have to specificaly look it up.

Do you not wonder why the big supermarkets (and I think of Tesco specificaly) are fighting tooth and nail against the medical experts recomendation for a clear and easy way to lable foods as healthy or unhealthy? Is it because they Don't want to make it easy for people to make those decisions? Less consumption of these high calory, high margin good means lower profits for the businesses who produce them. They aren't stupid you know......

Obesity is a huge problem already (costing billions and soon to cost billions more). You can't expect the people making profits from treating and causing this problem to solve it, it's not in their interests to do so. You also can't expect the people who enjoy stuffing themselves with shit to stop, because they enjoy it. That's why we need strong regulation to takle the problem and to try and limit the damage it is already doing to us and our children......

To be honest, the blame lies solely with us, just because we try something and think its nice and want it again, doesn't mean that we should, treats should be in moderation.

However I do also believe that the health department should sort out once and for all, what truly is good for us so that we are not continually bombarded with confusing conflicting information by companies, for example, is probiotic yoghurt really good for us? I think not, just a sales and marketing gimmick
