holy shit these truly are work of the Devil

Only started having them in the past year, its like each one gets progressively worse than the previous.

I cant work out my trigger for them

Anyone else suffer?

Ive been sick and crashed out pretty much instantly since 3pm ish.. i just feel exhausted now.

I hear you, suffered for years they are truly hideous.

Am now starting on a different epilepsy med (for the migraines not epilepsy) and have specific pain meds I either inject or inhale

Mines been a long road to get here, I’d recommend keep going back to the Drs if what they suggest doesn’t work - been fighting to get good effective drugs for about 10-15yrs!!

I've never had a regular one. I get ocular migraines occasionally and they totally suck dick - it's like your vision goes kaleidoscopic and gets holes in and all you can do is close your eyes and rest....

My OH suffers terribly, there are preventative medications that work for some, as well as great med’s to fend off an attack. Have you started to suffer frequently?

Well i cant say if they are frequent or random. This is my 5th.

The first one i ever had i was sick once, fell asleep and woke up fine. Still took a few hoursnto get energy back..

The 3rd one i was sick, nap, sick, nap, sick, nap and took ages to recover.

And this one is similar to that. Ive just woken now and touch wood the headache has gone, having said that ive not moved from laying down in bed yet. My sense of smell is mega heightened. Can smell the candle i was burning yesterday from in my front room still but my light sensativity issues appear to be ok now..

Had to leave my car at work as didnt feel safe to drive

My first ocular one terrified me - ended up on A&E as thought I was going blind - fortunately not had one like that since x

The first suggestion any specialist will offer is to keep a diary. Food, drink, exercise, things that raise blood pressure. Trying to establish if there’s a trigger or not.

May be worth a shit at chatting to a Gp about seeing a migraines specialist.

Well a few weeks on from this ive had 2 more. My GP has now requested i have a CT scan of my brain.

Apparently its not common to suddenly get them as an adult.. people who have migraines have had them since a teenager..

Also have some new tablets to try when one starts..

Fingers crossed those pills work when i get another

The only thing I can suggest is to take medication during the aura and before the pain hits, it reduces the cascade. Ideally hit the dark room before that point too, but not always possible.

At the first sign of an ocular one (stress is a trigger for me)

I neck three or four Gabapentins and that usually staves them off.

Horrible horrible things Migraines.

I feel your pain

My migraines are connected to my hormones

Menstrual migraines that lasted a couple of days when younger now its due to menopause more frequent but less severe

I started peri menopause in early 30's (dismissed by GP by confirmed by a Gynaecologist)

wonder if you could be experencing a hormone change

Hope the scan gives some answers x

Mine started when I had a mirena coil and even when I had it removed I still get a migraine around the time of my period

i'm glad they are being looked into,, the more recent ones have wiped me out the next day too..

I was sick 7 times in my latest one.. it just felt like it was never going to end. I genuinely would have welcomed death..

Had them since I was 11 ,first one on a hot day like it was sunstroke, it went sleep vomit, sleep vomit till there was nothing left in my stomach . 30 years later still don't know the trigger, really does mess with your life .

Couple of my friends used to have really bad migraines and they had a part of their ear pierced and it stopped them. Think it’s called the Daith.

You can get anti emetics I think.

But stopping a cascade before it starts will cut them short.

I sometimes get a hint one is coming on. I get sort of pins and needles in my arm and/or tunnel vision. I don't get the headache straight away so if I take a couple of ibuprofen in time, it's a lot more mild or sometimes goes away.

Yup. I (Amy) get them quite a bit. Usually from stress or lack of sleep.

I get the blurred vision as well, so driving is usually out of the question. x

There’s a piercing you can get in your ear if all else fails its worth a shot this is from previous experience from friends another one is keep a track of sleep for eg of you are going to sleep or waking up at different times of the week they can sometimes trigger

though i do find that if i can use migraleve or even the tesco own brand tablets quickly enough then i can limit the intensity or stop them sooner.

Not been diagnosed with them but mum suffers and my big headaches are normally triggered by chocolate after 7pm can give me one early morning and can be there all day.

Also caffeine withdrawal triggers them.

I've have had them since my early 20's which was caused by stress however it's not the main trigger now.

Luckily I vary rarely get the splitting headaches or sickness now just tunnel vision, flashing colours and whacked out feeling for a few hours or until the following day.

It sounds like you are having proper investigations and hope you get a good outcome, if not go back. I spent years being prescribed tablets little different to paracetamol until I was finally given medication specific for migraines that's made such a big difference.

I had my faith pierced too. 2 years ago and it did not help. Mine seem to be hormonal but often stay for 2-3 weeks with varying intensities. I've still not found a painkiller that helps and closing my eyes hurts too.

Found drinking lots of water though the day made a massive difference and hardly ever get them now.

Touch wood, I haven't had one in a few weeks, but I would usually get them every other day sometimes daily. They are indeed the work of the devil

There's a thing called a 4head stick though that I find if I use as soon as I feel one starting then it doesn't come on. You get them in the chemist and its like deep heat for your forehead lol they are only about a 5er, might be worth trying if you haven't already.

The only over the counter painkiller that I've found helps is syndol but they knock me out so I sleep it off

I used to get them every 3 months, almost to the day. Now about one a year, and linked to stress, usualky after pressure lifted.

Vision goes, then 25min later pain. Often weakness on leftside and slur my words. Someone mentioned Syndol this is a good one!

I also find a massage or wank will help reduce pain a little...thank you endorphines

You are not alone and unless you've had one you cannot understand the pain. Wecome to the club!

One of my grown up children gets them, a relative ordered an essential oil for her to rub on her temples and it does the trick. You only need a very small amount. Sometimes it’s trying to work out the trigger.

I used to suffer with them really badly, mainly in the run up to my period. Now I only get them once in a blue moon but they wipe me out for days. Nothing helps other than locking myself away in a dark room and trying to sleep it off, I need background noise though to take away to focus of the migraine.

Have you had your eyes checked recently OP? It may be worth it so as to rule out anything nasty behind the eyes.

I suffer with really bad migraines, can last upto 6 days at a time. Went for a brain scan but couldnt find a fault at all. Now im on really strong pain killers.
