Give the lambasting of Jimmy Carr over his tax avoidance (note its not evasion) it would seem Saint Gazzer from Manchester is in the same club as Mr Carr. The facts are that the procedure they use for avoiding tax is perfectly legal and was no doubt disclosed to HMRO as a tax avoidance scheme. Saint Gazzer has done nothing wrong from a legal standpoint but should he be asked to return his birthday honour of the OBE?

Or should we just say keep the money and the gong just stop organising pathetic concerts and composing ordinary music?

Shouldn't get the award and should pay the tax, plus I'd like to see all these millionaires fined heavily, multiples of the tax they've avoided by their 'legal' scams.

These scroungers make me sick to the core, taking everything they can from the country and paying little back, for the welfare of those in need.

Even Osborne, the Chancellor, doesn't apparently pay the higher rate of income tax, despite his earnings being in excess of the threshold, whilst millions of us hardwoking people would be hounded and fined if we didn't declare a building society account earning a couple of quid. Immoral double standards in play.

I did'nt think that concert was pathetic,I really enjoyed most of it

If Gary has the balls to standby his decision for exploiting legal loopholes, then fair play to him…. Because it’s the system that’s at fault

But if he also fauns remorse by falling on some moralistic sword in a vein attempt to counter his feeling of guilt, then I’d like to see the public turn their back on a greedy twat! ….

I think avoiding paying tax, however 'legal' the scheme is, is a rotten thing to do while people are struggling. However, the cheek of Cameron chastising anyone for not paying tax is pretty huge. As someone on the radio stated today, it would be very interesting to find out how much tax the various members of the Cabinet are paying.

I'm with Soxy, the system is at fault, loopholes should be closed, St Gary nor that weird looking Mr Carr haven't done anything illegal - if I was a multimillionaire and my accountant didn't point me in the direction of the tax avoidance I'd be looking for a new advisor.....

This problem is not a new one, the rich/well off have done it for donkeys years. The system allows them and if they have a good enough accountant to assist them in getting away with then fair play. Whether it's right or wrong is for the morons oooooops I mean elected officials to sort out and remedy. Ask yourself this, if you could somehow pay less tax/contributions to the morons (must stop calling them that hehehehe) would you? I know I would, we don't get value for money from our taxes anyway, they get pissed and frittered away by the same people that say they work for us and use our tax money wisely and efficiently

OK.What he did was a scheme to help musicians so there is a positive side.Mind you I do still question the morality. What Jimmy carr did was purely tax avoidance with no winners but himself

You can't blame them for doing what's legal. The only difference between them and us is that they had someone to pay to know about the schemes and do it for them.

If there is a problem it's that people can legally do it. Not that they do.

As its allowed what's wrong with doing it, if I had an Accountant and he told me about it I would say do it as would most people. And what accountant wouldn't suggest it, saving their client tax money means they can charge for the service, and as its legal, why wouldn't they.

It looks bad as an end result but each action carried out by each person in the chain is understandable. Who wants to pay more tax than they have to?

I'm not as annoyed about it as I am bankers bonuses.

I really don't see the issue with 'tax dodging' when its legal..

Can anyone honestly say if someone said to you there is a way to know 20% off the tax you pay a year, you would say no? I 3 the UK and I want to pay all the correct taxes x
