Has anyone else ever suffered a ban from the chat room for over a week before? We got told off last Friday and got a time out for an hour, but a week later still can't get on! Even after contacting several times, it still hasn't changed. What's going on!?

Yes OP, people can get a bigger ban once the ban is reviewed. The only one who can lift it is Admin from the contact button

Bans are not "getting" longer, there has always been different length of bans, if you or others find themselves getting bigger ones then you are normally heading for a perm
